Sky's call centers are in Scotland (Lothian),Northern Ireland (Belfast & Londonderry) & the Phillapines (Lipa)
the person we spoke to the other day sounded like they had a very strong indian accent that is why i thought they must have one in india.

The problems you describe point to a failing PSU (power supply unit) & these can be fixed for around £35.
so you think they will want to charge us if that is the fault? i wouldnt be surprised if it is a fault with the psu because ever since we got the box it has always been very hot to touch.

No, if they offered you a fixed price service call then that should be what you will pay, that covers a recon box if required.

Noooo...it's another option. The's a link at the top of this forum to Digibox Repairers, some people would rather pay to get the PSU repaired than have a new box,PSU failure is a very common fault with the Sky boxes, especially the Thompson ones.
All the boxes get hot, that's why it's important to leave ventilation around the box & not stuff it in a cabinet & surround it with junk.
As to the Indian accent, they could be in a UK callcenter, the were quite a few Indians as well as other nationalities working in the Belfast one when I worked there.
Heck I've fixed some faults on VM's digiboxes that were that hot you could cook an egg on them!

i think the hd box is amstrad. i remember being suspitious when we got it actually because the box it was in didnt look new and the optical out slot at the back was broken. my dad couldnt be bothered with the hassle of phoning them at the time over a broken optical out slot.
the regular sky+ box upstairs is a thompson though. that is a couple of years older and we havent had any problems with it yet.

To find out the channels used by your local transmitter for the various multiplexes use:-http://www.ukfree.tv/txlist.php
  • the problem with this strategy is its risky and they sometimes call peoples bluff.

Which is not really a problem as you are currently paying for a service you cant use anyway. IMO all sky repairs should be free for subscribers
  • called yesterday to cancel. First chap wasnt interested and let me cancel TV without so much as a whimper.
called back to cancel broadband also and got a response this time, discount and engineer to call to fix / swap box

i was annoyed at being piddled about tho......still could never be as bad as 'three' mobile.

Why? The terms are that the box, dish and LNB are not leased, they belongs to the subscriber, except with a 12m warranty. Just like most broadband contracts when the router is provided 'free'. If it breaks, it's the customer's problem, unless they care to blag a replacement FOC.

The point is that the "terms" suit Sky, not necessarily the subscriber.

I think if a long term subscriber has a faulty (or old age) digibox then Sky should replace it for free. It's surely in Sky's own interest to encourage such customers to continue.
