sky box faulty, what to expect?

i tried to post this last night but the site went down.
on monday our sky stopped working. they are sending out an engineer next monday and they charged us £15.
1. will sky reimburse us in some way for loss of service?
2. if they cant repair the box will they replace it for free?
3. if we have to buy a new box how much will it cost?
4. anything else you think is worth knowing?

When our box stopped working we just told them we wanted to cancel and they sent someone who replaced it. No charge.

    In answer to your questions in order;

    1-No,you won't get anything.
2-Yes,you will get a refurbished box which has a three month warranty
3-Nothing,The service calls are usually £65 & the cost of replacement items is included.
4-Check with Sky that your service call is only £15 as it's usually £65 unless you haggle.

If your box is out of 12m warranty then you will be charged the full service call out of £65, not £15. It's your box from day one, not leased by Sky.
Sky boxes (except the HD ones) are free on freegle, or cheap as chips on Sky, that's the best way if it needs replacing out of warranty.
But how do you know the box is faulty and not the dish/cabling/LNB?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    How old is the box?
Are you under contract with Sky?
How much do you pay Sky a month?

perhaps i should have been clearer on a couple of points. they have definitely only charged £15. this is due to how long we have been a customer. the box is a hd box.

we tried the usual things like taking card out turning off power turning back on. we then also followed instructions to update the software. nothing worked and now the box wont even turn on.
for a couple of days before it went kerput it was doing the odd thing like the pause icon appeared when we hadnt paused it. the you cant use interactive services when 2 programmes are being recorded appeared a few times when trying to use text even though no programmes being recorded. these small issues were dealt with by turning the box off and then on again.

the problem with this strategy is its risky and they sometimes call peoples bluff.

In which case if they say you need a new box but say you need to pay for the new box I would tell them that you will cancel your subscription in that case.
Chances are they'll give you the new box (or reduce your price to fund the cost of the new box).

On the freegle thing - I gave away a couple of Sky+ boxes a few weeks back, so they can definitely be had.

And you save £65 a month for a while.
Won't take long to cover the cost of a new box at that rate!
