Still no phone call here (of course!). However, my delivery date which had slipped to 25 April in order tracking has advanced to 18 April during the course of today. Of course, it may just as easily have moved faster and further in the other direction next time I check (moved to 19 April while I composed this post!)
I did notice when I looked at the Dell website before the offers expired yesterday that the 1150 product particulars showed it as having a cdrw drive as standard, but when I tried to configure a new purchase as an experiment it showed only a DVD read-only drive, with no option for a cdrw, dvd-rw, or anything else. I'm wondering whether they have run out of dvd-rws as well, or are they keeping some back in order to provide us with upgraded machines?0 -
No phone call here either although I did request an order update through the online status thingamy and this is what it said
Dear Customer
Thank you for your mail. Our sales team will be contacting you
to confirm some details with regards to your order. They are
presently contacting customers for this system specification
to confirm details regarding the Combo drive.
Thanks
Dell Customer Care
Erm what does that mean.... I placed the order and paid in full immediately, they even sent me the pdf file (which I understand confirms the sale) I'm absolutely sure what I ordered and paid for is what I want and I shall tell them so when/if they phone, there is no need for Dell to confirm anything!!0 -
I think I fall between dauphin and Frugal_Moose on the great 1150 order list and have just got a call from........
...a company selling sliding doors.
But no call from Dell. Will they call us in order? Will they call us at all? Ah, the suspense of it all!0 -
still no call to me either. Hope this order doesnt take utterly ages to get to us, not to impressed with dells speed at the mo. There isnt even an estimated delivery date on my order status page, its been blank for 2 days.0

Update: I phoned Dell again just now and was advised that there is no apparent problem with my order and that it is currently expected to ship on Monday. However, as they professed ignorance of what I was told on Wednesday, and as the order is still shown as at the pre-production stage, I do not have a lot of confidence!0

Hmmm. The plot thickens. Perhaps a dusty box of cdrw drives has been found in a long forgotten stockroom (free printer AND a free spider?). Then again, perhaps one hand doesn't know what the other is up to. Seems we'll just need to wait and see.....like we've been doing for a week already. Of course, we could all cancel our orders. :rotfl:0
-
Oh, I definitely would not cancel unless I could see something at least as good for the same money, and I have found nothing which comes close. If it turns out that Dell cannot supply me with this machine - with a cdrw or better, because this is a vital part of the spec we ordered - they will have to supply an alternative which is at least as good, and if this means a higher-priced machine from their current model range (memory upgrade, free printer and all) so be it, but I will not pay a penny extra. I fully intend to hold them to their contract! To be fair, I do not think they will dispute that this is their obligation, but I just wish they would be a little (make that "a lot") more efficient in getting the matter resolved.0
-
Couldn't have put it better myself, dauphin. Just having a laugh about cancelling - would be a bit daft at this stage.0

Still no call from DELL, i am waiting impatiently.0

I ordered a 2.8ghz 1gig ram laptop from Dell earlier last week. £486 too which is a bargain in my book. I've never had a laptop before too.
Oh, and I got a phone call at work saying the laptop will be delivered Monday (tomorrow) so am lookin forward to an evening of "fettling"Money saving:
Buy a Skoda. Laugh at the VWs who paid several grand more
Its a diesel. 50mpg - laugh at all the petrols
Its a tuned 260bhp diesel - laugh at them in the rearview mirror as they vanish
See my 260bhp dyno run video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BvjJjL7Z500
