When they call you, stick out for a free upgrade to a DVD writer (which will write CDs as well). They have got to find a way of giving you a writable optical drive. See clause 3 of the Terms & Conditions:

My first post! Don't know how I managed without this site for so long.
I seem to be one of the 350 too. Perhaps posting as soon as the Dell rep phones listing what was on offer / what you talked them into would be a help to others in this position.
I ordered at 4am last Friday morning and until today had an estimated delivery date of 21/04. Ordered 305-4112 with CDRW option.0 -
OK I am at a bit of a dilema with all the recent Dell laptop offers. I ended up buying two of them, but must give one back. I bought the 5160 and the 510m, but don't know which one to give back. They both have pro's and con's. I will list out the pro's for both of them:
5160: P4 HT processor, dedicated 64mb graphics card, £545
510m: Centrino processor (therefore wireless and other benefits which I'm not sure off), DVD writer, very light - 2.3kg, price £621.
As you can see the 510m is more expensive, but it has a Centrino processor and is very light. However the 5160 is cheaper and has a dedicated graphics card.
I will mainly be using the laptop in one place (with a wireless network though, I already have a wireless card) and therefore mainly using mains power rather than battery. I might move it around the house, but I doubt it will ever leave the house.
Which do people reckon is the best deal?

I phoned dell this morning to see what was happening, they told me that there was a problem with the CD combo drive and they were upgrading the order. I was told to wait for a phone call to find out more. They have not phone yet!

Right, that shed a lot of light on the matter.
