Surely it would be easier to just try it and see if it works rather than try to explain it to strangers?

I have tried it last few nights. But I don't know long term if there will be any bad consequences basically. I know nothing about beds, just that I used to sometimes get neck pain on my old mattress which cost me a decent job interview, incidentally.

How much? Does it matter if the wood between the beams is busted?

If you're still using the bed you had as a kid then perhaps it's time to invest in a new one...

Try the charity shops, e.g. the British Heart Foundation - the ones round our way have excellent quality furniture for sale at good prices.

just buy a thin piece of chipboard and replace the wood, why faff with a book.
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.
