Its any drink so that could be water or Oasis or milkshakes, all which qualify for the free glass and all which are not fizzy."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
I too have loads of the McD's coke glasses. They last forever. Glasses from Ikea break very easily. It doesn't stop me buying them or boycotting Ikea glassware. It's an accident.0

The glass that smashed was not a Mcdonalds one it was one bought with Coke Zone points. I've no idea how they work but I assume you have to buy coke to get them?
Its not really relevant to the discussion though as like the OP says its basically his business if he allows his kids to have fizzy drinks. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
She has been left with 2 small cuts to her cheek and a cut on her bottom lip, which bled profusely. Apart from that, the poor child was terrified and (for now, at least) refuses to drink out of glasses. Thankfully the injuries are minor and she didn't swallow any glass.
Then you would be best focusing your efforts on explaining to your daughter that this was a random accident, and there is no need for her to worry about it happening again. Whilst you are writing needless letters, she could be developing an irrational phobia!0 -
I had 3 of those free Olympic ones this year. All 3 broke. 1 was dropped, the other 2 just cracked of their own accord. I've never had a problem with the colourful ones they usually give away at McD's, but I know a fair few people who have had these Olympic promo glasses crack when putting very cold drinks in them.0

The glasses are free as part of a promotion. When the promotion is on if you buy a large meal (and any drink) you get a free coke glass. There is no increase in the price of the meal that week just because you get a free glass. Therefore the glass is free.
I've already explained the marketing and how prices are set etc in the most simple terms I can.
With all due respect, if having read my simplified explanation, you still can't comprehend the basic principles, and you still believe that a corporate gives anything away for free, then you are not even remotely qualified to pass off your opinions as fact.
I do sincerely hope you never try to run a business, because if you believe that the idea of business is to give things away for free, then you are doomed to fail.
I wish you all the best, and I hope when inevitably, as happens to us all sooner or later, you are forced to realise that the world is not all fluffy bunnies, I hope you get over it quickly:)0 -
I think the point being made, is, nothing is really "for free" If nescafe hire a billboard and put up a big advert it will cost them far more than distributing several thousand samples of nescafe through people's doors. These are given free, not because nescafe think, "hey, we're loaded, lets give away lots of free coffee!" but because they hope people will try it and say, "Hmm that's nice, think I'll buy some next time I am in Asda"
of course there will be some people like yourself who don't like it. But there'll be many who do. I love it. I am just not prepared to pay the price for it when i can buy tesco's own at a quarter of the price! But not everyone is a moneysaving cheapskate like me! So even though it hasn't cost you any money it is a marketing exercise.
I have been a freebie hunter for many years, and believe me, in the good old days we got whole boxes of coffee sachets and bags full of toiletries and sheets and sheets of sticky labels, and I could go on and on! these were not given to me because the manufacturers were feeling generous, but because they hoped I'd buy after trying!
Oh, how I long for those good old days!!!!! I had drawers stuffed with freebies! LOLI can be brown I can be blue I can be violet and sky. I can be hurtful I can be purple I can be anything you like..Gotta be green gotta be mean gotta be everything more...0 -
I wrote a longer response yesterday but the website crashed
Anyway the glasses are free. I don't accept the argument "nothing is free". Everything has a cost but in the case of free glasses that cost is not met by the consumer (at the point of purchase).
The nothing is free argument is similar to the "I pay your wages" argument that people say to police. While technically true it isn't really true. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

No mention of compensation in the thread till you brought it up. Idiot.
There is a strong assumption that the OP is after compensation. Based on the fact that they have made a complaint, are not happy to wait 5-7 days for a callback and have instead decided to send pictures and a letter to coca-cola. I may be cynical but it sounds like they are after something.
If it was just a warning to coca-cola about their products then that has already been done. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
