Hi Sugajen, does your doctors surgery have a nurse or even a wellwoman clinic? I had problems with my periods a few years back, went to see the nurse, unfortunately she couldnt help me and had to refer me to the doctor, but she wrote everything down in my notes, so all I had to do was turn up and let the doctor know the nurse had made notes for him to read, he was a lovely doctor and helped me get sorted, we have a few doctors in our surgery and the nurse recomended this particular one.
On the subject of PMS, it seems to me that everyone has different things that can trigger it off, mine is coffee, if I drink too much I get grumpy before my period, so have cut it down to 2 cups a day, if I have any more, everyone else suffers. I used to also get painful/tender breast (sorry if thats too much info) which stopped once I cut out the coffee.

It might seem a bit odd a reply from a man, obviously it's all a mystery to me, but it won't be to your doctor. This is a very real problem and by posting on here you have taken a big first step. Don't be afraid of talking to your GP, I can assure you, you will not be the first person to see him/her for PMS and during my student days having shared a house with five girls I can assure you, you are not alone in suffering from this. Making the first step will be the hardest, but talking to somebody about it will be a huge relief. Don't think for one moment the doctor will think you are being silly or wasting their time, they are there to help.

Our local surgery does the same thing, where no appointments are available until next week, but if you phone in the morning you can get one that day. This was explained to me that one doctor in the surgery keeps the day free so that they can see people who phone that morning, this way for urgent appointments there is always somebody available the same day.

    Give your doctor a call.

OK saw the nurse, within 30 seconds of being in the room i was in floods of tears!!! but managed to explain best I could (forgot my paper that I wrote everything down on)

She thinks I have mild depression and I kind of agree but im sure I only feel "down" the rest of the time because of the PMS so I dont know.

So anyway she suggested evening primrose but that can be expensive and I would have a buy a good one (somthing about 'gamma') so thats a no no, so told me to get vitamin B complex, reduce my caffine intake (I do drink alot) and gave me a months supply of Citalopram, which im really worried about taking after reading the leaflet, it says 'used to treat major episodes of depression'

I dunno, gotta be worth a try.

thats good to hear!! mine are 20mg, but seen as i suffer from panic/anxiety issues then its 10mg for that and 10mg for pms lol. Shouldnt even joke about it, its not funny. 'tis abit

Feel better just knowing ive got them and they are gonna help me, and I feel abit silly for all the worrying I went through this morning about seeing the nurse :o

Got to go see her again in 2 weeks, im assuming to see how im getting on with them.

Jen well done for making it to see the nurse :T I really hope that this is a positive changing point in your life.

I totally know what you mean about feeling sure you are down about the PMT - when in fact someone from the outside sees it as more than that!

I dont know much about the Citolapram i'm afraid as I was far too scared of the tablets to take them when suggested. But I do know that simple changes to my diet have made a difference. I know people bang on about cutting out caffeine, sugar and things like white bread & pasta - but I have honestly noticed a difference. Lots of freash fruit and veg sounds like a cliche but it's got to be worth a try if it means you feeling less unhappy without also feeling that you need to rely on medication?

Caffeine always gets flagged up in connection with PMT and I have to say it was a huge contributor for me... I now dont touch coffee and have the occasional cup of tea. That prob sounds awful and unthinkable if you drink lots at the moment... and I wont lie and say its easy.. but it's worth trying at least for a bit to find out if it helps you. If is does - then you have something positive that you can do for yourself and you know that it is worth the hardship.

I really hope that you feel better soon hun.

I tried Evening Primrose and it had no effect - a friend put me on to Starflower Oil and it is the most fantastic thing ever! It is a stronger dose of the "good stuff" in evening primrose oil, yes it is expensive but for me (and probably safe to say everyone around me!!!) it is worth every penny!!

There will be something out there that works for you, don't give up hunting it out xxx

I thought evening primrose wasnt that bad price-wise! it was the nurse that said it was expensive.

Anyway im just gonna try everything all at once, I cant have another pms episode like last week! Plan of action - reduce caffine, vitamin b complex, citalopram, if I put my clothes away I can use my exercise bike again (exercise without having to go out!!)

Also does anyone know, when youre feeling 'down' do you think it helps to force yourself to do something even though you cant be bothered? ie me and a friend taking all the kids to a park 2mora

    Thanks again
