Had to have words with the postie this morning as he has lately taken to banging loudly on the door and then ringing the doorbell when delivering a parcel, he used to just do the normal doorbell ringing although he would then be writing the notification card out before I had a chance to answer the door. I wonder if it has anything to do with the Royal Mail decision to require the postman to leave a parcel with a neighbour if the resident isn't at home? Either way he was told ring bell don't bang door!

At least he is trying to get your attention! Mine does not ring or knock but leaves a card saying he could not deliver even when you are in, which results in a trip to the sorting office and if it happens on a Saturday the earliest I can get the parcel is Monday night (picked up) or Tuesday (re delivered) and he then swears he did ring
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.

What I hate is, on my flats, when the contractor button is still active, the posties like to bang on my actual flat door. The thing is, because I've got used to the door buzzer being my sign that someone is waiting to come in, if they bang on my ACTUAL door, it's like they've jumped past one layer of my personal security and it always makes me jump and scares the crap out of me for a few seconds... like it's an intrusion.

I do not like it. Do not like it at all.

Well I am glad you felt the need to have words with him this morning. Good luck now when expecting things to be delivered and he decides to er "ring the bell" and leaves with your parcel.

By the way if it is your preference on having the bell rung, maybe this would be an idea?

just put a sign on the door
"postie, please use ESP to let me know you are at the door"
On a serious note,do you expect them to stand on the street when the doors open?

It is a bit trivial. Do you realise the time restraints posties are under these days. Still think you'd have more to moan about if you didn't make it to the door on time.
Don't talk wet ringing the bell is sufficient for 99% of all callers no one needs to bang the door before ringing the bell to get a response, if I don't make it to the door the postie should do what he is paid for and either find a neighbour who will take the parcel in or return it to the office for me to collect, what next shouting through the letterbox?

Im not sure a postie's T&C for pay include the words "Be sure to RING the bell and DONT KNOCK!".

I always assumed that a postman's job is to deliver the mail. I am not sure you could demand they do what they are paid to and RING A BELL, be that they dont get paid per door chime.

There's a buzzer that acts as a thing called a "door bell." It rings loudly in my hall, and I can answer and grant access. You know, like a real font door.

Yes, there is a service buzzer that unlocks the door before 10:30, but there's a difference between using that to just drop off the letters, and letting yourself in so you can bash on a door when there is no expectation they'd be there. Especially if it's a parcel at 7am. I'm still in bed and yet to get dressed, trying to work out why a stranger has let themself in when there's a perfectly good doorbell downstairs.
