Postman banging on door

Had to have words with the postie this morning as he has lately taken to banging loudly on the door and then ringing the doorbell when delivering a parcel, he used to just do the normal doorbell ringing although he would then be writing the notification card out before I had a chance to answer the door. I wonder if it has anything to do with the Royal Mail decision to require the postman to leave a parcel with a neighbour if the resident isn't at home? Either way he was told ring bell don't bang door!

Does it matter if he bangs on the door as opposed to ringing the bell?

I imagine when you have loads of parcels to deliver its easier to just bang on the door as opposed to checking to see whether they have a doorbell or not.

I thought Royal Mail would only leave a parcel with a neighbour if you signed up for it?

It annoys me when people bang on the door like some kind of halfwit when there's a perfectly good door bell.

Yes but often you press a doorbell and you can't actually hear anything. It may have gone off inside but standing outside you've no idea if its working or not. Therefore knocking (not banging) on the door is often a better option.

Maybe he thought you had not heard the bell? You have told him not to bang again and if he does so in future you can complain to RM.

I have no issue with our postie, but did remonstrate with one courier who leant on our bell until I answered the door. He sneered, "If you don't want it I will take it away" and stormed off leaving me holding his delivery route card and pen. Then I got phone call and more grief from the courier's boss. I complained to M&S and cancelled my order.

I am sure these guys have a tight schedule to meet and it must be frustrating when customers take time to answer the door, but they ought to be a little more considerate to their customers.

I understand they will leave with a neighbour unless you opt out.

damned if they do and damned if they don't. Many bells can't be heard from outside the property. Always used to ring the bell first, if I couldn't hear it then the letterbox/door got a good rattle. How would you have felt if your bell hadn't been working and he had red carded you because he hadn't knocked the door :wall:

I remember delivering to one household who were playing loud music, I rang the bell, I banged the door, I knocked the window. Still no answer. They came into the office to collect the next day when I was working the locker and accused the postie of not knocking. So after I told them the very music they were listening to, they backed down :rotfl:

Maybe he thought that I hadn't heard the bell when he bangs the door before ringing the bell, priceless!

He could have perhaps not noticed the bell?

Banged on the door, then spotted the bell so rang that as well.

It doesn't seem like anything to be that bothered about!

He could have if he hadn't been delivering to us for years when he used to ring the bell and only recently started banging the door before ringing the bell.

I'd take banging on the door anyday than our Hermes courier pressing the doorbell constantly for over a minute and making the dog poo himself with excitement.
