Why doesn't Cameron want Scottish Independence?

"Scotland" is obviously the English name - what's the new country going to be called?
Kingdom of the Scots, as in Mary Queen of Scots?
Scotia? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Interesting to see that Salmond has been shown up to be just as much of a conniving lying twit as any other politician. The SNP has taken no legal advice re: whether Scotland would need to reapply for EU membership, but has happily spent loads of taxpayers money attempting to cover up the fact that it hasn't received legal advice by claiming that there was legal advice but no-one was entitled to see it.
So either Salmond is dishonest because he has been implying all along that (supportive) legal advice was in place, or Salmond is dishonest because he has legal advice, it is not supportive, and he is pretending that it does not exist. Couldn't even summon up the courage to come clean in person either.
So, anyway, the SNP's policy of not joining the Euro is, and always has been, up in the air and they have no idea whether they can deliver it. Perhaps the SNP should spend some time talking to the EU and establishing what the position actually is instead of just lying to the electorate.0 -

I'm not sure who owns the name for Scotland (Motorola? Apple?) but I'm sure a compromise can be struck.
Otherwise maybe Scotland can take 1/9th of the name, leaving the rest with the rest.
Perhaps it could be called Proclamia with the national anthem:0 -

I'm quite happy to retain "Scotland", although I could argue that it was an English name.
Why do you presume it is?
A little research would show that it's derived from the roman's as the latin for Scoti (male) Scotia (female)
Caledonia is another Roman based name referenced for Scotland
All together now: -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sl4oIpF-YpU&feature=relatedI don't know if you can see
The changes that have come over me
And these past few days I've been afraid
That I might drift awayI've been telling old stories, singing songs
That make me think about where I come from
And that's the reason why I seem
So far away today
Let me tell you that I love you
That I think about you all the time
Caledonia you're calling me
Now I'm going homeAnd if I shall become a stranger
No it would make me more than sad
Caledonia's been everything I've ever hadWell I have moved
And I've kept on moving
Proved the points
That I needed provingI've lost the friends
That I needed losing
Found others on the wayI have kissed the fellas
And left them sighing
Stolen dreams yes there's no denyingI have travelled hard
Sometimes with conscience flying
Somewhere with the wind
Let me tell you that I love you
That I think about you all the time
Caledonia you're calling me
Now I'm going home
And if I shall become a stranger
No it would make me more than sad
Caledonia's been everything I've ever had
Now I'm sitting here
Before the fire
The empty room
A forest choirThe flames have cooled
Don't get any higher
They've withered now
They're goneAnd I'm steady thinking
My way is clear
And I know what
I will do tomorrowThe hands have shaken
The kisses flowed
And I will dissappear
Let me tell you that I love you
That I think about you all the time
Caledonia you're calling me
Now I'm going home
And if I shall become a stranger
No it would make me more than sad
Caledonia's been everything I've ever had:wall:

Rather than negative politics and constant deflaming of each other, why don;t politicians concentrate on what they have / can deliver.
Tat would be refreshing.:wall:

Nicola Sturgeon was on question time stating they have legal advice, it IS supportive, but it would be breaking some kind of house law to release details of the advice.
Probably 2-3 weeks ago?
She did kind of agree (by avoiding the question) that more has been spent on trying to withold it, than was actually spent on the advice.
It'll be released after the referndum though....so that's alright!!0 -

not sure what you mean by this. are you suggesting that other politicians shouldn't be sticking it to salmond / sturgeon over the fact that they have been caught out blatantly lying to the electorate?0 -

she admitted yesterday that there is no advice and it has never been sought.

Scotland became Scotland when the Gaelic-speaking Kenneth Mac Alpin seized the throne in Perth from its English-speaking occupants. The place was called Scotland, in English, to indicate that it was now ruled by foreigners - like the Danelaw, or Normandy, or British Honduras."It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis0 -

I mean I would rather hear from politicians on what they are going to do and how they are funding it rather than negative campaiginingNegative campaigning, also known more colloquially as "mudslinging", is trying to win an advantage by referring to negative aspects of an opponent or of a policy rather than emphasizing one's own positive attributes or preferred policies. In the broadest sense, the term covers any rhetoric in which one refers to one's opponent in an ad hominem manner.
For me, when politicians start negative campaigining it's because they have nothing worthwhile to portray themselves.
If a poitician used their air time proactively, and concentrated on promoting their own positive agenda then they'd get much more respect from me.
If I were standing against a minister where there was a negative campaign ensuing, I would merely say something along the lines of "Ok, let's move on from said MP's change in stance, I'd like to discuss what we would like to deliver to the electorate"
The problem in this country is we like to focus on the negatives and not the positives as it apparently makes "better news"
This week it's Alec Salmond / Nicola Sturgeon.
Last week it was Andrew Mitchell
Before that David Wilshire
And Theresa May
George Osbourne
The two Ed's
Baroness Warsi
etc
etc
etc
Move on quickly from negative politics and emphasize positive politics for increased respect.:wall:
