We did not take out insurance because we purchased another pup last week, he can't be vaccinated til this week (2nd one) so wanted to get the insurance after that and they'd both been chipped. Unless we'd have taken out insurance the day he was born - or within 4 weeks (not possible, we didn't have him then).., the insurance wouldn't pay out, u have to wait at least four weeks to make a claim on the insurance schemes I looked at.

Again, if you got your dog from a good breeder you would have been given a puppy pack and puppies from good breeders come to you already insured for a month.

    So:

    1. Were you given a puppy pack when you bought your dog?
    2. Did the breeder give you any paperwork that may have contained insurance?

As an aside, if you didn't get either of those things, may I ask whether you saw the parents of the puppy? Were you given any indication of hip-score? Reputable GSD breeders should health screen their pups.

I realise these questions don't have anything to do with your current problem, but I'm getting a nasty suspicion that you've bought a pup that was a) too young to leave its Mother b) given to you unvaccinated and c) given to you uninsured. If all those are the case then I'd be a wee bit worried about the integrity of this pup's health.

I'd had to borrow money to pay the vet fees so far so have had to transfer him to the PDSA.

    Seriously?

You know if I had my way the PDSA wouldn't cover people who'd purchased an animal whilst on benefits.

Sorry, but it is still absolute rubbish.

There is no grounds to refuse insurance for the staffordshire bull terrier breed, as the links I posted show, they are not a dangerous dog.

I think your friend may have misunderstood, or there is a misunderstanding with the insurance company.

There is certainly no reason a staffordshire bull terrier should be refused any kind of insurance, they are classed the same as any other dog, even what some people would call a cute looking yorkshire terrier, a toy poodle or chihuahua.

I can't believe I am agreeing with goater here but have to say it is not rubbish at all. I have a friend who could not find a kennel to take her staffordshire bull terrier when they went away because their insurance companies (she tried quite a few kennels in the vicinity) would not provide cover for that breed whilst they were in their kennels. Every single kennel she tried said the same thing. She ended up having to leave her dog with a friend.

If you read the posts properly you will see that we are discussing, muzzling dangerous dogs and whether certain dogs are more dangerous than others (the insurance issue has arisen from the fact that SBT's are considered to be unpredictable by some). It is all connected. I fail to see why the issues we are discussing are causing you a problem.

So your friend and goaters friend both say that staffordshire bull terriers cannot get insurance at public companies, so it must be true.

NO, it isn't true, it is still absolute RUBBISH!

It is if you can afford the dog but not the muzzle ;)
