Making chicken feed of my mortgage

  • Mr MWC is home :kisses2:

After dithering for a while, I cashed in my L&G S&S ISA today. Over the last 14 years, we've paid in just under £25,000 and today it was worth just over £35,000 :) However, it hasn't performed well over the last couple of years (-0.3% and 0.1% return) :(

We've decided that the money will be transferred to the mortgage!

I need to research and apply for a new, better performing S&S ISA - any recommendations?

    Eggs IN 6
Eggs OUT 2 (poached for my dinner)
Mortgage at highest (April 2008): ~£195,000
    Mortgage-free: January 2021
Retired: June 2022 (186 months early!)

A simple low visit index tracker - just pick your index :D. Where do you think there will be least volatility/most growth, depending on your risk tolerance?
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

  • I tried to sell my sharesave shares online this afternoon (the share price went beserk!) but I was thwarted by the system  I need a shareholder reference number that isn't in my online account details and they won't give me over the telephone... :(

Ed's diary is a good one for isa tips. Even I have a s&s ISA after following his diary!
    June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!
  • I've found the correct reference number and I'm ready to sell first thing tomorrow morning :T For a whopping 80% more than I paid for them  :j

We could be mortgage free next week  We probably won't be as we are meeting with an IFA and I can't imagine for one minute that he will advise us to pay it all off the mortgage :rotfl:

We have a busy weekend ahead - London tomorrow night for the David Bowie prom (Mr MWC is using loyalty points for a hotel room) and then we're on the guest list for a festival Saturday/Sunday

Wow on the shares! :T

And you lucky lady - the Bowie prom! Mr M and I booked a hotel then completely forgot to keep a tab on the day the booking opened (:o :o:o). Though I was sure Mr M had put a note in his diary (since he booked the hotel) but apparently not. At least it was on a cancelable rate :o
