Oh MWC, I don't know what to say either, because I know I can't help you with words. But how devastating. I'm truly, truly saddened on your behalf.

    Dear MWC,

I'm very sorry that you've lost four of your beautiful girls. :(:(Please don't kick yourself - foxes are bold, clever, and opportunistic.

Mum and I have kept hens in the past, and we had a number of similar incidents. Finally, the fox crept into the garden whilst we were in it and attacked our rooster. It had lost its fear of humans, as a neighbour kept feeding it :mad:(salmon, would you believe???).

We don't keep hens any more, but have enjoyed reading about your adventures with your girls. They are very lucky chickens to have you to look after them and I hope you and your two hens recover from this horrible event.
    Good, clean fun.... :D

I am so sorry about your chickens. I don't know what to say. How awful for you. Sending much love to the two survivors. I hope they recover swiftly from the trauma.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

    Oh you poor thing :(

Love to you and Mr MWC and some meal worms for the two girls :(

    Very sad :(
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)

  • Thank you for your kind words XS, Wirenth, Watty & GG

Miss Effie will be OK. She's still a bit spooked though and no longer broody - the hatching eggs arrived today but never mind. I'm not so sure about Miss Gladys... she has hardly moved or eaten all day and is looking very sorry for herself :( I've moved her into the pet carrier and brought her indoors.

I pressure-washed the coop this afternoon and then (after discussing it with Mr MWC first) went to buy some replacement chickens.

So meet the, as yet unnamed, new girls:

*hugs* MWC, what a day. So glad to hear it's ended on a happier note, what lovely new ladies xx
a penny picker upper. MFW approx 78% to go | FIRE 3 years worth (30% savings rate: now aiming for 40%!) | Normality is a paved road; it's comfortable to walk, but no flowers grow on it | Whatever you're meant to do, do it now. The conditions are always impossible | The only thing you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library
  • Mr MWC is home :j

He had a letter from HMRC waiting for him... a £1,500 tax rebate :T

In less good news, he was bitten by a dog this morning so I have checked up on the incubation period for and symptoms of rabies just in case

We had a yummy dinner of Spanish omelette & fried padron peppers

Just off to put the new girls to bed as they haven't worked out how to use the ladder yet!
