I've LinkedIn with her... although she has 500+ connections so she must accept any invitation! She has viewed my profile though so that's a start :)

    No serious job-hunting yet :o
Tut tut. Neither wonder the girls can't be bothered laying eggs :rotfl:.

I've just looked on New Scientist Jobs and there is a job that I could apply for...

I'm rubbish at job-hunting (was head-hunted for current role) so should I hit the apply now button and attach my CV or phone the recruiter, express an interest and ask for more details first?

    Closing date is Friday
Mortgage at highest (April 2008): ~£195,000
    Mortgage-free: January 2021
Retired: June 2022 (186 months early!)

Do you need more details or have you got enough to go on? The CV submission's not usually much more than throwing your hat into the ring.

If on the other hand it's a full blown application then you'll want more details, job description, personal spec etc. is it a recruiter you know well, will they provide all the info you need in time for a polished application by Fri?

Sorry you're now in this position after everything seemed to be going so well, HR are stinkers! Well done on the mortgage though! x

Ask for details so you can draw out the most important parts on your CV.

    Here's to more eggs :T.

  • Thanks for the advice Hbbb & GG :T

I shall phone and ask for more details - probably tomorrow as I'll be able to phone from home rather than an open plan office

    Hello Mr GG

Unfortunately, HR has no appreciation of my role or responsibilities so they wouldn't bat an eyelid if I resigned... It is HR that are the issue and apparently my boss is VERY frustrated/angry.

As much as I would like to resign and we could survive on 1 salary, I really do need another job to go to first.

I need to start job-hunting seriously and to make contact with the new department head of the same function in our parent company.

    Hi MWC

Apologies for not coming back sooner.

Really - HR are so blinkered that they don't realise the value of someone who has ostensibly won a promotion? Or is that the opinion you have formed through a third party?

Perhaps your boss should remind them how much it would cost to recruit, train and develop someone like you. I can see from the way you write and express yourself here it would be your company's loss.

I also feel - forgive me if I have this wrong - that your boss needs to put HR into place. HR is a support function and should never hold sway over operational necessity. There are a few HR professionals on here who may well advise far better than I but this sounds like petty power play to me.

Personally I would let my boss know in no uncertain terms what you think of the behaviour, declare you will be looking elsewhere and for that very reason would not be too reticent to let others in your open plan office hear you talking to any prospective recruiter (in your own time/ mobile). I am glad to hear you will pursue this angle and, despite it being a public board, I think your friends on here do need to continue hounding :D you until we see action!

However please do what YOU are comfortable with, I just think you are in a stronger position than you think you are.

    Good Luck

    Good luck with job application....
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!
  • Fingers crossed for jobs MWC.

Also very excited for you for Norway, mainly cos we were almost going to be out there at the same time as R.Air were having a bit of a good sale but then we decided we were a bit too busy and left it. Have you been before??

  • Thanks all - Mr GG I'll reply tomorrow :)

I've not been to Norway before VMD - this will be our one and only trip so we're trying to pack plenty in! Actually, that's not quite true as Mr MWC went to Tromso on a business trip.

I went for a walk this evening and got drenched - the heavens opened when I was 1.5 miles from home :( 12,000 steps today though :j
