Sounds nicer than the pea & ham soup I made yesterday - peas, cooking bacon, stock cube, onion & garlic :rotfl:

  • Morning, you're up blinking early GG

MWC, I think Aunt Tilly, Auntie Natty and Auntie GG need a progress check on Miss LRH. Has she put on weight with all the lovely food she's having? Is she putting the other chickens in their place, or does she have a very gentle nature?

Finally, I love the idea of doing my hours over 4.5 days - plus that would stop me working too many hours perhaps. Will have a think about that :)

Have a glorious day and I hope the rain stays away.

    Best wishes Tilly x

  • As requested, a chicken update:

Miss Beryl is a very confident and naughty chicken. She frequently jumps a 4' fence into my part of the garden. She has a routine: 1. scratch behind the gooseberry bush (fine); 2. mooch around the lawn (fine); 3. dig in the gravel (fine as long as she's flicking gravel back towards the house and not on to the lawn); 4. trash the flower beds (not fine). She now refuses to let me pick her up and I have to bribe her back to the chicken garden with mealworms. She still lays small cream eggs but makes such a fuss about doing so that you would think she is laying an egg the size of an ostrich's :rotfl:

Miss Gladys is bottom of the pecking order (and still occasionally gets a peck from Miss B and/or Miss H :() She is not as confident as the other 2 newbies but seems happy. She still lays small green eggs, quite often after lights out and I find them in the run the next morning.

Miss LRH is a darling and she still likes cuddles :D She is also a very greedy chicken and jumps up at the treat bucket before I get a chance to throw them a couple of handfuls. She now lays "proper" size brown eggs.

I'll try to get some photos later.

I've been doing it for a couple of years now. It started as a summer hours scheme (June-September) but my line manager let me (unofficially) do it all year round. After a few years of terrible work-life balance survey results, my employer has just extended the scheme :D
