Since the OP is moving, it's irrelevant now, but such a clause is unlikely to be enforceable in law. In future, if asked to sign such an STA, simply strike that clause from it before signing.

It seems strange that the readings taken on 3/8/12 are the same as the readings taken on 29/8/12
  • Do you think my readings are messed up? Ive taken these from my account page on eon.

In an earlier post, you said that you update your meter readings every two weeks, so now I am even more confused

Assuming these are your readings I calculate the annual consumption is about 6200kWhrs of which approx 30% is night usage. That would cost approx £70/month.

So *if* the readings are right the E.On calculation is correct. Your £48 is too low and a catch-up is required.

The usage you report is not consistent with the uber economy you describe. If you say you never have heating you never have heating but I know how cold it is in winter without heating. One possible reason for excessive consumption might be heat loss from your hot water cylinder.

It is not possible to exclude the wrong meter being read. The first check for that is that you obtain a photograph of your meter which shows the same serial number as shown on your bill. Try to get the agent to cooperate in gaining access to the meters. The best test is that when you have switched off your main switch your meter stops.

Without doing all that you cannot be certain. However you must accept that as far as the readings are concerned E.On seem to me to be correct.

jalexa has explained it well there, from the information you have supplied.
It appears from you readings that you only used 5.4 kWh in total per day from 8/9 to 10/10 this year. That supports your statement that you haven't had the heating on and have generally been economical.
So, while maybe you are now cutting costs regarding energy usage, it appears you haven't been especially frugal over the last year, resulting in you underpaying for your electricity consumption.
That approach may help you going forward, but unfortunately you still have the debt to settle.

OP You have been advised what to do.

    a. It is your meter, you cannot rely on someone else to take care to give you YOUR readings.

    b. Arrange to meet someone to open up to your meter.

    c. Turn everything off in your flat.

    d. Go and study your meter (sounds exciting i know!)

    e. Make sure you have the correct meter, the readings are correct and it isn't still spinning like ceilinig fan!

Only then can you be sure.

I'd also check your tarriff with Eon, you may find you're paying a ridiculous tarriff with them.

I am not allowed to change my energy supplier. Its a clause within my rental agreement.

You may not be able to change supplier but that does not stop you changing your tariff with Eon for a better one. Sounds like you could be on a Standard Plan with no discounts. (as you are a tenant do not tie your self into an annual plan or you could be charged money to exit the plan early if you were to leave the property).
You say you only have certain things on, are any left on standby when not in use? I know you say things are unplugged at the wall but is that everything? How energy efficient are you items?

Try turning everything off and then run one thing, does this use as much electricity in say 15 minutes as you would expect it to? Something that is 2000w would use 2 units of electricity in an hour - 0.5 of a unit in 15 minutes. If you can do a test then you can see if the meter is running fast then ask them to check it.

But I think you may find that either your usage is higher than you think or you are on a high tariff.

You don't get to see your meter? They give you the readings? So how do you know you are paying for the right meter?

    Hi littleun1,

I am so sorry that you have been made to feel this way, we should be helping you not upsetting you.

There is some really good information on the thread already and I agree with the main points about looking at your meter yourself.

Have you ever taken your own reading? Or have these always been taken by the management company?

You need to look at the meter and check the serial number matches the one on your bill, also turn everything off and check the meter readings.

We also need to have a look at the tariff, because if your not using any heating at all you may not be benefiting from economy 7.

Once you have done these checks I would contact us again and go through the billing and the tariff.

    Helena :)
