have just seen the bit of paper with my mob number on etc and it says remember to activate your sim by april 2014. I haven't activated my sim could this be the problem. Tried ringing CS on 191 on phone and it said it couldn't connect me to speak to anyone as i didn't have anough credit. i put £10 on last saturday, have makde one phone call and spent several hours trying unsuccessfully to access the internet. I really feel like crying and would send it back to Isme if i could but my 7 days is up today and I don't even know if the phone is faulty. I think I would have been better buying in a shop and got some help or just sticking to my old faithful that doesn't do anything but at least I can make a phone call. don't even know how to text on this thing

It's nothing to do with your Wifi, so no it's not the problem. You can connect to Wifi with no sim in the phone.

Ok - there is a difference between mobile internet and Wifi internet.

Your mobile internet is via Vodafone and needs the sim in it for this. Is you data switched on?

Your Wifi is through your Virgin router - this will work with no sim but you need to put the correct password in which it sounds like you are not doing. Do you have Virgin Cable or non cable?

If you are using the Vodafone sim you should be able to go into a Vodafone shop and ask for help with it.

However this won't help with your Wifi at home.

Its just not set up right I think, would apply to almost any phone these days I am afraid unless you got a simple (non-smart phone)

1st off, have you got mobile data enabled and a signal - above the row of bars for signal strength you should have some sort of little symbol showing (mine is showing an 'H' because I am getting HSDPA - very fast internet connection, could be a 2G or 3G or anything)

If not you need to go into settings and ensure 'data enabled' is set.

Just a thought - if your using the Voda sim that came with the phone from isme - does that actually allow internet? its PAYG so maybe not! (I chucked mine)

Thank you for your reply. i might go into a Vodafone shop although I would be a bit embarrassed as I hadn't bought it from there although I am contributing with my sim. I bought a freedom freebee so do have plenty of minutes and texts left but appparently no "credit" which is rather silly of me because i won't be able to phone home if I need to. I'm afraid I don't know if my data is on or not. I have been trying to follow all advice on this thread and am very grateful but am also a complete novice. I have gone on the Vodafone website and tried to find information there. I have gone into settings turned off Wifi and chosen various options ie 3g 2g and anything else i thought might work but there is no "do" button like on a computer so don't know if it has registered. My son has a Sony Experia Arc on contract with T-mobile and he said he just accessed the internet and it worked straightaway so he is unable to help me. thanks for your continued help and apologies for being a thickie

actually you might be right Sillygoose as when I listened to what credit I had left on my freedom freebie it mentioned minutes and texts left but no mention of the 50MB web access which is included according to their leaflet. I assumed the sim was suitable for whatever you wanted to put onto it. ironically I deal with corporate phone orders/problems at work (I know the least able person in the world!) and have never had to specify whether internet access would be needed) So I've wasted my £10 as I only put it on to test the internet when it arrived last Saturday at home and am intending to get the three sim only deal with the good cashback from Topcashback. Oh well I got a lovely surprise when I just looked at my credit card account. Isme charged me the £102 then credited back the £30 (as expected) but they have also credit back another £10 odd which i think might have been the 10% off a first order which i did try to add to the Coupon/Voucher box at checkout but it said as a higher value voucher had already been redeemed (ie the £30) it couldn't accept it. so not all bad news then - I may have a phone I have absolutely no idea how to use but at least i've got a tenner I wasn't expecting in the process!

If you have minutes, you can surely phone home as that's what the minutes are for.

You do know that you will have to get it unlocked from Vodafone before you can use it on Three?

You may also have to manually set the mobile data apns.

yes I did know i had to have it unlocked thanks for which I will use one of the recommendations from here on Ebay. Refiguring the settings may be a step too far however. i think i'll just make a pest of myself amongst my smart-phone owning friends and see if they can help me. thanks for all the help on here though

Phones can be pretty smart these days, I unlocked mine and went from Voda to O2 and didn't have to configure a thing.. phone worked it out itself!

If you know someone on Vodaphone who has working mobile internet, you could borrow their sim for 10 minutes and stick it in your phone to test it.

you should get your wifi working first, its probably just a correct password away from you.
