A pack-up breakfast?
Comments

Even if left to OH, someone will have to go grocery shopping for the items to go in a pack up which may be me as hubby will be doing everything else. If there was time to stop off somewhere, then they'd just set off later and grab breakfast in the hotel. I've got some fab food ideas- thanks.0

Also please remember that he will need 2 breathalyser kits in the car, came into French Law on 1st July this year.
That's been delayed now until next March due to lack of kits available in France.

As they're teenage boys how about a tube of Pringles and some Haribo

I'd just give them some pain au chocolats and fruit, it's only one breakfast. Or if you can be bothered cold sausage sandwiches, I've eaten them without them being in the fridge and not died.0 -
Pepperamis - to balance out the refined carb fest. They don't need refrigeration and if not eaten can be brought home so no waste of going off.
I would have thought hard boiled eggs would be ok in a cool box for a couple of days. They will smell once peeled though.0 -

I really want some pringles now

I am basing my reply on the fact you don't seem to have a cool box, if you do then the world is your oyster really
If you haven't then as they are going in a few weeks I am guessing it will be cold outside and warm inside so bear that in mind
I have had loads of early starts and breakfast pack ups when travelling and the worst things are dry croissants and sandwiches no one eats them really and bananas if squashed are horrible when you put your hand in your bag
If it was me I would take hard fruits like apples, if freezing those yogurt lobes things then I would wrap them in foil and put those mini sausages you get 2 for 3 pounds, then they could have sausage rolls/cobs/buns! Most important thing is to put the rolls in a box with a lid otherwise they will get squashed nothing worse
As well as rolls, yogurt, apple I would add a breakfast bar and a packet of crisps these are essential for a mid/early morning snack
Maybe add some biscuits but if they are excited I bet they won't eat much but essential in my opinion are sandwiches/rolls not squashed and crisps I cannot tell you how important these are everyone always eats the crisps
No egg, can you imagine the smell in a warm car :eek:0 -
What do they normally eat for breakfast?
If cereal, I would pack them off with some milk or UHT milk which has been frozen before they leave, so will have thawed but still be coolish by the next morning, a box of cereal and some plastic bowls and spoons. If porridge, weetabix or ready brek, the cereal, some powdered milk and a travel kettle.
If toast, then they could perhaps take some bread, which would stay fresh for a few days even out of the fridge, or some crackers or oatcakes plus their spread of choice. My DD has epilepsy so often have emergency hospital dashes which last up to 12 hours, and our emergency bag contains a box of oatcakes and a jar of peanut butter which stays fresh (so long as not opened) for months and makes a really acceptable and filling meal with a drink.
Some fresh fruit which is portable and will also easily last a few days out of a fridge would make a good addition to either.0 -
If I am staying in a Travelodge or having to have breakfast on the run, I usually get Warburton's Orange loaf, banana, fruit yogurt and a pot of fruit salad. Two slices of the Warburton's orange loaf is so packed with fruit, its one of your five a day, I know its not individually wrapped but it would be easy just to divide a loaf up into individual sandwich bags or wrap a few slices each in foil. Its so moist that I eat it just with the banana and don't bother having butter on it although you could butter it as you pack it if you wanted.
That would be quite a healthy start for them. Then I would put other things in for them to nibble on during the rest of the journey such as individually wrapped cakes or slices, extra fruit such as apples, grapes in a plastic box, a lump of cheese each or cheesestrings or dairylea slices for the children, crisps, chocolate bars, sausage rolls etc.
I wouldn't put croissants or pain au chocolate unless they were going to eat them at the hotel as they would make a mess in the car.0 -
We do have a coolbox but it's the eletric plug in type, so can't be kept on overnight as it would flatten cars battery, but I hadn't given any thought to how cold it will be overnight- so thanks for mentioning it, as it means I can consider different food items. I'd also not given much thought to the mess croissants make. Unsure if they'll be eating in hotel room or in car. DH and son both eat most things, though DS dislikes bananas and dried fruit. Both son's friends are good eaters (as in they eat plenty) but one tends to be a bit fadddy with range of food he has tried0

If you freeze cartons of juice they can be used to keep the toolbox cold for hours as they gently defrost
