Antony Worrall Thompson's organic yeast free gluten free vegetable stock cubes.. have seen them in Sainsbury's and Tesco but you can also buy them online on his website for 99p a box or 4.95 for a pack of five boxes, plus p&p. Bulk orders get discount evidently but you need to email.
I think Kallo are better but these are definitely better than the Heinz Cook at Home organic vegetable stock cubes and 45p cheaper and around 9p cheaper than Kallo.

Have you checked out Marigold too? Not sure if they have a suitable one for your needs but I know they do an organic one, vegan one etc, have a few in the range. Is very good, comes in a tub, lasts ages, as per usual have to shop around to get the whole range though.0 -

I haven't seen Marigold stock cubes here Kirri but I did spot some online when I was moseying about looking at websites.
Ocado Christmas orders.. minimum order £90 and even delivery pass holders like moi have to pay up to 9.99 for a delivery. I'm never going to spend £90 just on milk, eggs, bread and veg for three people as I have loads stashed in freezer and cupboards already.0 -
Cubes are just marketing ploys, it's all about the tub of stock, much more economical
Re Ocado, last year I didn't order due to the extortionate delivery rates and min spend pre Christmas - wait and put an order in inbetween Christmas and New Year once the delivery slots drop to zero to encourage orders - sale items and discount usually - obviously doesn't help if you want stuff pre Christmas but sod paying all that!0 -
When I have time, I make my own stock using Laverstoke Park Farm organic beef or lamb bones but if I don't then I use stock cubes. (1kg, 1.99 Abel & Cole)
Tubs are probably more economical than cubes I agree. However, I haven't seen the range of flavours in tubs which are available in stock cubes eg vegetable, beef, chicken, mushroom, French onion etc. Also, tubs take up more space.
Husband thinks Ocado taking the michael rather. He is taking week before Christmas off but we were both wondering whether we would be able to find what we want in local supermarkets.
I called Abel & Cole and even though my usual delivery day will be Christmas Eve, no extra charge (so still 99p) and I've been able to book a delivery (minimum order still only £10). Obviously that's not an option for everyone because Abel & Cole isn't available everywhere.0 -
It could be questioned as to whether we really need a multitude of flavours in just a stock though?! Even as a previous meat eater I never bought them, I just use a 'base stock' for any recipe albeit now I have no choice!
Also one to watch with Ocado is that the delivery charges shot up from the prices they were when first announced. A friend a few miles away was also being charged way higher than my area though we are both the same London zone. The Abel & Cole delivery charge is great, shame I never know where I will be as it's an anytime on that day delivery isn't it?
Am planning a visit to As Nature Intended this week, quite excited! Need things I can't get in the supermarket. Must try not to deviate from my list but I know it will be hard.0 -
As a college-trained ex chef I admit that I look at stock from a different perspective, especially because I learned how to make sauces from a chef in a 4 star hotel with whom I fell in lust with at seventeen, in between school and college.
Stocks are the building blocks for sauces and then there are various sauces which then become a building block for yet more sauces. I don't bother for a quick mid-week veggie soup admittedly as it's often impractical but factory made granules or cubes just don't do it for proper sauces.
For OH and I, cooking isn't a chore, it's a pleasure. Last night we did a veloute cream sauce with organic leeks to cover some special offer wild Alaskan salmon fillets I dug out of the freezer. Tonight I'm making celeriac and apple soup and OH is grilling lamb0 -
I have an Ocado delivery pass Kirri so I get free delivery - other than Christmas. I've been keeping track and with the money I save on delivery charges I think I'll get free delivery over the year. I had no idea that London was zoned like that I assumed it would be a flat rate based on time of slot.
Thankfully my order from Abel & Cole arrives pretty early on a Monday morning - I imagine they go to furthest point on the round first then work back towards base.
I forgot As Nature Intended  Have a great time there ! xx
