Organic food in supermarkets

Hi frugal_shopper, I bought Arm & Hammer because I used to live in Canada and had used other products. I read your post and looked at Amazon and yes the one you recommended is tonnes cheaper, thanks. I didn't do too badly though as the 1.6kg box of Nellie's All-Natural Laundry Soda was over £21 :eek: Also noticed that size supposedly does 100 washes so I've got a ways to go yet.

bornintoit - whether you can eat organic on a budget does often depend where you live.

If you have a Lidl nearby then you can get organic milk and pasta and sometimes Seeds of Change organic sauces, organic Heirloom tomatoes, organic carrots and organic mushrooms.

ASDA does really great prices on fresh organic veg, as well as organic olive oil, tinned organic tomatoes, organic pasta, organic rice and organic tinned beans. Finding them in your local store might be a problem though.

Abel & Cole does flat delivery charge of 99p and minimum order of £10 and has things like organic bones for stock and organic chicken carcasses for 1.99. Yes some of the veg prices are way dearer than supermarket, but not all. You'll also find veg you just won't get in supermarjets.

You might also want to look at the websites with low minimum orders and discounts for bulk orders.

Supermarkets don't seem to do many offers on organic food but there are some out there and I'll try to post them up more often.

In London, if you have an Oyster card, there are several organic markets, farmers' markets and organic supermarkets.

Sainsbury's SO organic British fresh whole/semi-skimmed milk 4 pints 2 for £3 to 27/11/12 as long as it has room to expand fresh milk will freeze; it looks yellow when frozen because of the fat but when defrosted and shaken it's fine.

^ Also buying organic you buy a lot less processed crap and junk foods which are overpriced anyway and more basic wholefoods so if the odd items are individually more expensive than non org then overall in buying a lot less in the first place it evens out enough I find to be able to warrant buying it as much as possible (I am extremely short of money to the point I would probably be eligible to eat from a foodbank!)

Agree with Kirri although must confess that I found Kraft Dinner organic macaroni cheese on Amazon Er I think I just confessed to my Non-Low-Carb-Guilty-Pleasure there ahem..

Normally I buy Sainsbury's or Tesco own brand organic teabags and stock up once in a while. The bags are round singles.

Ocado and Abel & Cole both had (different) Clipper organic teabags on offer so I tried them. Grrr.. you have to detach them as they come in twos in the pack and I ended up with tea all over the floor as the bags rip easily. :mad: Nice tea shame about the bags..

Christmas orders can be booked now as there aren't any individual time slots. If your normal delivery day is Thursday, last delivery pre-Christmas is Thurs 20th. If Friday, Fri 21st. Monday delivery also unchanged, last delivery Christmas Eve. Normal Tuesday orders change to Saturday 22nd and normal Wednesday orders change to Sunday 23rd.

The mini mince pie was really nice and luckily I had already ordered a box for Christmas. (12 for 4.99).
