Did you complain?? ^ I hadn't ordered as postage too much for the one item I really need at the moment (luckily by sounds of it).

No. Didn't think it worth it. Shall see how the paprika/nutmeg/black peppercorns go - not used yet, and see.

Particularly unimpressed with the caraway - it's usually very pungent. Will stick with Waitrose & Bart (who don't do as wide a variety of organic in bulk as they used to) and various other suppliers in future. Sainsbury's organic black peppercorns were cheaper than most and will be a yardstick for Steenbergs as I bought a 40g pkt while waiting on their order to be delivered.

smallblueplanet and happy35 welcome to the thread.

I was unaware of that ghee thanks smallblueplanet, I will also nose around the website...

Hi! I was unaware of what ghee tasted like 'raw', we usually use it for tarka's in dhals. :D

Steenbergs isn't the only organic herb place. There's another place mentioned on MSE Rose something. Again don't have access to bookmarks sorry.

Have used Redmoor in the past, good customer service & goods - some quite large quantities.

Picked up the organic vine fruits from Holland & Barrett today, they do have added sunflower oil in though weirdly. Thrown the Crazy Jacks packet now as finished that earlier in the week but can't recall having seen oil in that/any other brands? £3.49 so seemed bit expensive in comparison too maybe, though I had a voucher to use so can't complain for 99p. Will test them out in fruit bread later this week.

Ahem Redmoor that's the one not used it myself yet. My NY resolution was to explore more non-supermarket suppliers so there's a good chance I will.

So far this year ordered from Organix, Riverford, Ocado, John Lewis, www.yourhealthfoodstore.co.uk and Spices of India.

Got my first Riverford order today.. the cookbook is a thick paperback and stuffed full of recipes and the veg scrubber looks well made. Houmous is more garlicky than Abel & Cole's but runnier, great on Lyksands eye crispbread (not low carb but better and cheaper than Ryvita and has Svenkst Sigill certification so no GMOs). The ham and leek pies are fantastic and big hit with OH who wants more to stash in the freezer for his lunches (farm-made 2 for 2.95). That's all I've looked at thus far.

Kirri my mother thinks H&B best she's used. If you only want a few raisins, I noticed ASDA Great Stuff organic raisins 5 x 14g boxes are 50p. Poundland has SunPat bag of raisin boxes for one pound but altho no nasties not organic.

^ The Riverford order sounded good then.

Just checked my spreadsheet, paid £1.99 for the Crazy Jacks sultanas for 375g compared to the H&B/NY vine fruit pack of £3.49 for 500g. I use 100g per fruit loaf bake.

Always found Sainsbury's organic dried fruits a good price

    500g raisins - £2.25

    500g sultanas - £2.09

Ok payday was yesterday, oh is working all weekend , I dont drive.

So online shop it was then. Im my case ocado as had £20 0ff £80 shop.

    Brought approx 5organic items

if it wasent organic it was free range or british.

1)heinz stock cubes organic confused hich better heinz or kallo?
2)organic free range mince-the reveiws swunf me got duchey waitrose and reveiws dor dalesford/laverly dident seem as good hat do you good people think? I hate fatty mince.
3)got 2pots rachels creme fraiche so can do a truly organic lasagne.
4)_dalesford organic chicken wings/legs as on offer.

ordered free range corn fed bird
    free range ham
    free range chicken peices

fish-was bit confused with fish got salmon an seabass.

milk-volumes we driking right now cant afford the switch although with multibuys 3 for £4.50 for 4pints milk making it £1.50 seemed competative but extra 50p on every 4pinter so could cost me upto £1.50 extra a day.

    veg non organic.

The aim this year is try new things and see where it takes us.

We still have to be mindful of cost as we on small budget.

    going to compare

    service
    quality
    price
    range
    taste

of some organic lines and see if we make the switch.

Right now my biggest worry is meat and poultry.

Since horsemeat scandel its become quite clear the big 4dont know whats in the food chain.

Quality and service on local sainsburys does my head in.
Lidls and Aldis are very good for some things.

Whats important to me with poultry and always has been is bird wwlfare so try get free range or high welfare bird and always free range eggs.

Random question-on issue of free range beef/lamb are they normally roam feilds ayway they not intensivly farmed like pigs or chickens.

Also really keen to support local businesses and just buy british.

Im going to aim to try different retailers per month on ,my quest for tasty organic produce at reasonable prices. To prove its not just for affluent middle class guardian readers its with everyones reach.

    so on my list are

    Able &Cole

    Riverford

Feild & Flower-non organic but free range/local and british.

    Im sure will find more

want to check out couple new butchers
    farmers markets
    farmshops

work my way through ocado/waitrose lines as they have quite a lot.
