Well done Kirri for starting a thread on low welfare standards of free range eggs. :T https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4822177
Organic sales up by £8m during Organic September.. but actually that's a miniscule amount !
http://www.thegrocer.co.uk/topics/brits-spend-8m-more-on-organic-food-in-september/351501.article
Sainsbury's and Co-op drop non-GM promise on premium pork (so why pay extra? what's different?) http://www.thegrocer.co.uk/fmcg/sainsburys-and-co-op-drop-gm-free-promise-on-premium-pork/348952.article
Aldi is trialling a Has No gluten free range.. anyone seen it ?

Is it me or have Seeds of Change jars downsized ? I thought they were 500g and they're 350g now. Also, anyone had the Mediterranean vegetable sauce lately ? I got two pieces of courgette today and the sauce was watery. Not worth buying if that's the new norm !0 -

Think 350g is norm for non-tomato ones.
Never had the 'tomato-based' ones - seems too much like a tin of toms plus some bits! But do like the 'curry-based' ones as they seem good flavours when you can't be bothered from scratch. (Normally add an extra tin of toms or coconut milk and/or chili & garlic.)

Thank you E. Seeing the HEC adverts back on tv recently annoyed me..!
Whenever there is some food scandal I guess the org figures go up but too many don't think what is in food or how it's produced.
I've not bought the SoC sauces for years, I was never over keen on them - though I don't really like any jar sauces.
5 hrs shopping btw, sounds like my worst nightmare  The soda crystals were cheap though, they seem to be £1 everywhere at the moment.
I've just added a Booja Booja vegan organic ice cream to my Ocado order, only the mini pot, as it's eye wateringly expensive - nearly £8 for a larger tub! Anyone tried this?
I also noticed Ocado stock vegan cupcakes now, the same ones I think Wholefoods stock (for 30p more). Non org however but good to see.
Was going to add the Sharpham Park organic pearled spelt to try but gets poor reviews.0 -
Used to price veg sauce as cheaper than making own - not now because too few veg. Going back to making own. The chilli sauce in out of town Sainsbos yesterday 500g but noticed 350g in town centre one today.
More shopping today  as OH wanted to mooch round town centre with me and reckon have walked about three miles
Went into town centre (smaller) Sainsbury's and spotted on one shelf new packaging Kallo organic stock cubes 88g 1.30 but on offer 2 for £2 and on shelf nearby old style packaging 66g for £1 so it seems new offering is 22g more for 30p more. However prices vary wildly as later in ASDA old style 66g were 50p each and Holland and Barrett online has veg ones 1.55 and chicken ones 1.39 - for 66g
In ASDA picked up 9 bars, normally 60p each 2 for £1 and yes when we got home the single bars are bigger than those sold in packs. Lesson learned = trip to ASDA once a month for organic salmon 2 for £4, ASDA organic Extra Virgin olive oil 500ml 2.50 and 9 bars.
Couldn't find Goodlife nut cutlets in Sainsbury's or ASDA.
Supposedly ASDA has frozen organic sweetcorn 600g 1.49 but not mine (sigh) but ASDA did have the Green Giant organic sweetcorn 80p (but not the 198g tin). Waitrose and Ocado seem to be the only stores which stock the 198g tin for 89p ie 48g more for 9p more.
Kirri can report DP soda crystals £1 in ASDA too so yup Home Bargains saves 35p
BTW inside cover of the ASDA November magazine, there's an ad for Happy Eggs showing cute brown hens pecking about in grass by a hen size field shelter.
Not had anything Booja Booja yet, must confess. OH liked the Alpro chocolate flavour soya dessert at first, but decided after awhile too sweet for him. Kirri do you mean Cat and the Cream cupcakes ? VeganX https://www.vegancross.com has them in store but doesn't ship. 2.50 cupcakes, 2.80 cakes. Tried the Sharpham Park spelt several years ago, don't think I was overly keen either.0 -
If you fancy making your own vegan cupcakes then I can highly recommend 'Vegan cupcakes take over the world' by Isa Chandra Moskowitz - in fact I'd recommend any of her books, but the baking ones (cupcakes, cookies, pies) are especially good. I was a baker and even I find it hard to veganize baking recipes, but these work really well.0
