It's still touch and go here, got her gut going again but still not right. Seems to be a reaction to a (usually) safe and widely used prescribed med.. Dozey - not good re the teeth, good 'rodent type' dentistry is hard to find, I have a vet who does it without anaesthetic and I know of just a handful of other good vets around the country but I wouldn't go near any other vet for dentistry, most don't have a clue and do more damage than good.. Poor thing if she can't eat hay, there are some quite fine and short strand hays too that might be worth trying. Can she eat grass ok?

I'd take the yoghurts back or photograph and email the manufacturers (I got money back for off milk the other week that was in date).

Ahh bless.. they are such delicate little beings aren't they? Let's hope things right them selves soon. The very we have seems fine tbh, very knowledgeable and seems competent. Poor bunny has to have a general anesthetic:(. She was also a rescue and there is no way you could do it without. We give her alfalfa in her food and she manages that. Struggles with grass because it is fine I think but can eat dandelions. She did manage some white cabbage earlier. Its funny watching her try to eat things as it looks like she is smoking!!!!

Dozey Crow if they were within date I'd take them back to ASDA cos that sounds like incorrect storage temperature to me. We've never had an organic yogurt go off let alone mouldy eww.

Thanks both, I never thought of that I just binned them. I know better next time :)

I am really enjoying the recommendations btw, it is really helpfulI have downloaded the ocado app. Looks good.:)

I had one item missing from my Ocado order (Young's gluten & dairy free fish fingers for OH which he was going to try) first time in months. A couple of times I have had stuff leak but Ocado refunded the whole bag of products. I think their customer service is the gold standard and Waitrose, Abel & Cole and Riverford get honourable mentions.

Dozey Crow the Ocado on the Go app is really good. I do an order and then if I'm out shopping with my mother and see something same price/cheaper I buy it and cancel the item. That way I know I've maxed the moneysaving ;)

Ordered last Wednesday, Holland & Barrett order turned up today. Box really bashed but everything OK.

The Husband's reaction to Granovita nut luncheon meat could be amusing..I reckon he will like V8 vegetable juice if I serve it up like gazpacho. Got him gluten free granola and muesli so I hope he has enough now with gluten free cereal flakes and cornflakes to sort breakfast til mid December.

Organic shirataki noodles are made of a fibre from a plant called konjac. Zero fat, zero carbs but taste like rubber bands. However in a good sauce not so noticeable and they enable me to have bolognese or Chinese style food.

Anyone else started eating completely different kinds of food now you eat more organic ?

Thanks smallblueplanet have bookmarked that for OH. At the moment he has three gluten free granolas <rolls eyes> so it may be awhile before he gets to it.

Myself, I low carb so I guess that means my diet is pretty much wheat and gluten free but I'm not allergic to gluten. OH seems to be though.

Modern wheats are generally hybrids, bred for increased protein and with shorter straw.

I read this post on Wheat Belly author Dr William Davis MD's blog, which details research proving that despite the name gluten free diet, it's actually the gliadin protein rather than the gluten protein which has been enhanced and causes probs. William Davis says that prior to the 1960s wheat didn't have such messed about gliadin.

    http://www.wheatbellyblog.com/2013/02/is-gluten-on-the-increase/

Emmer wheat, the variety mentioned in the Bible is not grown much these days but eaten in Italy where it's known as farro. Pre-low carb I tried low GI and trying out all sorts of grains. I had farro pasta my mother brought back for me. This Emmer/farro is actually higher in gluten than modern varieties of wheat.

Interestingly to me, the agglutin in the wheatgerm of modern wheat is thought to have a blocking effect on leptin. This is the hormone that tells you that you're full. So eating less of it may have the effect of re-sensitising your body to leptin I guess.

Eating less sugary foods and carbs means that if you have insulin resistance, your body doesn't feel the need to churn out so much insulin. This enables the body to lose weight, which it can't do with high levels of insulin.

It seems that high levels of fat in cells impairs the leptin signals to the brain and so if you lose the weight and therefore the fat, then this will restore some sensitivity and enable you to know when you've had enough to eat. Obviously being able to lose weight and being able to know when you're full are a big help to people wanting to lose weight.

I think it's crazy for doctors in the UK to tell people with diabetes to eat plenty of starchy carbs. Carbs need insulin to be processed and if you aren't making enough insulin to cope with them, why eat them ? DOH.

Anyway on a lighter note.. Novak Djokovic beat Federer, Juan Martin del Potro, Gasquet, Wawrinka and tonight, Nadal in the final of the ATP World Tour Finals so gluten free is certainly working for him..

Just spotted ... Pacific Prize wild pink salmon 210g £1 in Poundland and Tilda rice meals. £1 for 250g, several varieties, all suitable for veggies, gluten free, with no additives, preservatives or colourings and take 2 mins to cook in a microwave.
  • Gousto Organic, Soil Association Standards, From Mumsnet email:
"50% off next order, code MUMS50, free delivery nationwide".

Although, when I clicked through to the Gousto website it was showing "35% off first bag, code MUMSNET".

"Choose the recipes you love and get all the ingredients in perfect proportions delivered to your door".

The boxes contain fresh fruit, vegetables, cans etc.

The veg is organic, the meat comes from a family farm in Devon.. it's certainly a great idea for people who hate shopping, want to be more adventurous and aren't on a restricted diet or who don't have allergies.

It takes a box delivery service one step further from providing some ingredients and recipes, to making sure that you have everything you need to make the dish. And it's not just available in London either plus delivery is free. So a namecheck to namecheck for posting about it on the thread :T

If you live in London, you can take advantage of it and use Tilia https://www.tilia.co.uk which will trundle round the best of the best eg Allens of Mayfair for meat, Steve Hatt for fish, Cocomaya for chocolate and then deliver the organic and artisan produce to your door. However AFAIK it doesn't give you exact recipes like Gousto.

Ocado has shops within the website so you can buy from Daylesford, Brindisa, Natoora, Gail's for example and get it delivered even outside London.

French Click can supply French organic produce and products as well as Poilane bread https://www.frenchclick.co.uk

Abel & Cole and Riverford both work with artisanal suppliers such as The Authentic Bread Company, Long Crichel Bakery, Flour Power City Bakery etc.

I'd rather that than either the black widow or Brazilian wandering spiders I've seen have been found in bananas in the past week!

Even I don't think that sounds appealing!

I think my diet had already changed quite substantially when I went veggie so going organic didn't really change it much as I was already eating more wholefood type things by then. I remember being about 15 when I started venturing into H&B to buy carob and the more unusual things...

Gousto are also available via Ocado (they were on Dragon's Den recently).
Riverford do a similar menu meal box.

I've been to Wholefoods again and I loved it! Tried the salad bar today, it's very good value as I mixed the salads I wanted and came to under £2, very tasty dressings on these - the Bombay potato salad is amazing. Has so many great vegan options. It has to be one of the best healthy option places to eat - I would love to be able to work near a place like that as I would break my lifetime habit of making my lunch. They appeared to have a sort of bbq grill thing going too for the meat. Got more of the fresh made nut butter and tried the make it yourself muesli bar too, also good value. I came out with a bag full of stuff I didn't plan to get, including a sourdough for £2, and forgot the one thing I did want. They have a Christmas dinner option to order including a vegan one which sounds good.

Also got the Ecover fabric conditioner large bottles in Waitrose at 2 for £4 and the YV yoghurt pots @ £1.35. Both very good prices.

I confess that I hadn't noticed Gousto at Ocado or the menu box at Riverford :o:o so thanks to Kirri for being more observant !

Got a sore throat so currently tucking into verry cold A&C tzatziki which is cooling and delicious.

Last night had Good Life nut cutlets which were 1.99 for four frozen from Ocado. Cutlet is a bit of a misnomer because they are round and although quite thin, are big. We had one each, 15.2g carbs, not organic but additive free and vegetarian. Both liked them a lot and 1.99 very good price.

If you're an A&C customer you should be getting the ho ho ho Christmas booklet this week. Possibly, a freebie mini mince pie too ;)

Got husband to check the cleaning/laundry cupboard and the Ecover things we needed were on offer with A&C. :)
