Organic food in supermarkets

I can't imagine cooking in a microwave must admit, I don't even own one now, was a novelty in the 80's but I would think it's difficult to produce anything that tasty in it, I can't remember anything being that nice in it
What about things like stir fry or crock pot or something, all in one pot so less washing up?
I use the microwave to make porridge in the morning as I can be doing other things while it cooks and just needs the occasional stir so I don't have to be standing over a saucepan. I can imagine myself with an aga type cooker and the porridge simmering away overnight in the appropriate oven, but I don't think that's going to happen:rotfl:
Mind you, our gas cooker does need replacing. I thought we'd researched it really well before we bought it but it's been a nightmare to use over the last few years. ....0 -

We've got a porringer (a double saucepan) so the oats can cook slowly without supervision.0 -
sophlowe45 and anyone else who hates seeing their nice fresh green broccoli turn yellow.
When it arrives in your veg box or you get home from the shops (remove the packaging) Slice 2mm off the stork and place in a glass/mug of water so stalk is just below water line and stand in the fridge. Refresh water every few days and slice a few mm off the stork every5 to 7 days. You may be amazed at how long it will keep.
Broccoli is my favorite and last night we had the last of some ys organic that had been in the fridge for almost 6 weeks !!! I had got loads and then my back went and my ME flared up so hadn't been up to cooking and although I love it raw I just had no appetite.
You need never see yellow broccoli again0 -
rufydoofyM give yourself a gold star..
I should have thought of that myself as I put herbs from my garden in vases and find that often if veg are starting to wrinkle, plonking em in a sinkful of water for a couple of hours perks them up. Storing carrot batons in water in the fridge keeps them crunchy as well.
alfsmum - I got that email as well.
Mojisola - hello there :wave:0 -
Thanks Edwardia
I was so chuffed when I discovered the tip earlier this year and felt a little silly for not thinking of it before. I often revitalise limp veg in water so it makes sense. I've shared it with so many and it has to be my tip for the year so far.
Riverford have just delivered :j
MEDIUM VEGBOX

Carrots UK

Flat Beans ES
Courgettes ES
Portobello Mushrooms UK
Cauliflower UK

Apart from the cauliflower which looks a bit sad (but not lonely as they have sent 2 small ones) it all looks lovely.
Easy meal tonight, hm cauliflower cheese soup with hm rolls from the freezer. Might even fry some Riverford lardons to sprinkle on top if my back holds and I can stand long enough.
Shopping with Ocado, Riverford and Abel and Cole has made things so much easier since my back went almost 2 wks ago. I am trying to keep the spending down but keep seeing more things to try and we do like taste testing side by side.
I Have added Doves farm and Whole earth corn flakes. Will let you all Know what we think.
Have also added Marriages flour which is currently on offer and our favorite for breadmaking.
Not organic but Ocado have
Willies Wonky Venezuelan Black Carenero Chocolate 180g £4.00

^ Fantastic selection in that medium box! All relatively 'easy eating' stuff, I don't like it when there are too many heavy going types of veg in the same box. Just had a look on Riverford but not sure if the contents have changed over yet but I really fancy the medium veg box next week. It's showing bunched carrots and parsley at the mo for that box and the gpigs LOVE these. Though I had already half chosen the A&C small fruit and veg box next week... anyone else have trouble deciding each week?! Will decide by midweek when I see what I have left from this week. We've eaten about £27.50 worth of fruit and veg this past week which is rather a lot given I'm skint.. (though maybe slightly more justified given I don't eat/buy meat).
I keep changing the box each week, this week I'm trying the Medium Gourmet from A&C, due to include:
Flat beans
Aubergine
Portobello mushrooms
Avocado - skipped this, not sure what I will get instead
Broccoli
Red cabbage
Red pepper
Vine tomatoes
Added on salad pack and cucumber, partly for the gpigs, but I'll share. Also the hoisin (on offer), tofu, eggs, some fruit and household items. Oh and some of the lemon and white choc biscuitsI did notice they have cinder toffee too which I will have to try now I've spotted it as I love this!
