I noticed that too on the Campaign for Real Milk website soph and that's way more than I thought would be lost.
My mother buys raw milk from a local farm, lucky moo
alfsmum I think Moo tastes great actually but would rather have fresh milk. We had years of drinking non-organic skimmed UHT and it's pretty tasteless so we enjoy fresh.0 -
Anyone have any favourites among non-dairy organic milks in the supermarkets?
I've tried my way through a few soya/hazelnut varieties without finding one I could stand to drink. I've yet to find an affordable (for me anyway) organic almond milk. Saw some Ecomill Almond Milk in Holland & Barrett but couldn't afford the £3.55 they wanted for a litre.0 -
Abel & Cole is a sister company of Aunt Bessie's. Riverford is a franchise operation delivering produce from Riverford and other farms. I don't think it's absolutely fair therefore to compare them like for like. Really, the only similarity between them is that the deliver organic food.
Abel & Cole is effectively my milkman, bringing me milk, eggs, yogurt and cheese. I buy unusual vegetables from A&C which I can't readily buy in supermarkets eg organic globe artichokes and Jerusalem artichokes.
Riverford provides OH with a fruit bag most weeks, he also gets their Homity pies and ham and leek tarts for lunches (spoiled huh?). Because they deliver on a Friday I sometimes get milk for the weekend but I think A&C's Guernsey milk is better. I have odd veg from Riverford too, things like wild garlic recently for example.
I've had a few probs with A&C but they've been sorted. Not had any with Riverford so far.
Agree it's not comparing like with like. I guess I'm looking at what works best for me with price, quality, service, range of goods stocked etc. A&C are more of an organic online supermarket than a veg box supplier these days.
Well, Riverford order arrived while I was out and, to be honest! I'm a bit confused. I've searched through everything and their was no receipt, just the usual new sheet with recipe and a slip saying cucumber had been replaced with celerywe're not the world's biggest celery fans....
Without the receipt I can't tell if I've received the complimentary items and what they are if I have. The medium veg box has 11 varieties in it but I can't compare with what should be in there and what might be extra as the box contents aren't available online. I thought you could usually view this week's & last week's content on Riverford but all the boxes just say contents change weekly so check before delivery. Is this a feature of the new website?
On a brighter note, treated myself to a quick browse in Whole foods this morning after a stressful appointment at work and found some St Dalfour organic chocolate sauce. Low fat, low GI, gluten free. Obviously quite a lot of carbs in the form of sugars, main constituent is agave syrup. Have to admit it was an impulse buy and I try to avoid those :rotfl:0 -

I've tried a few soya milks but not found any I liked; it's the slightly gritty aftertaste, I think. I've got on better with rice milk (rice dream organic, I think.) I've had the same problem with non dairy yoghourts and haven't liked any soya versions. The nicest one I tried (another Wholefoods tasting session) was made with coconut milk and was lovely but very rich and much higher in fat that I'd normally have.0 -
For Ecover fans, Abel & Cole are offering a free 250ml Lavender and Aloe Vera hand soap with each 1 litre refill ordered. Don't know how this compares with other offers?0

I'll have to check out A&C as well. Shopping for one that £10 minimum order looks very enticing.
That's why I'm a convert! It's really very good as I never needed enough to justify using Ocado regularly.Abel & Cole is a sister company of Aunt Bessie's. But to be fair they market themselves much the same so you'd never realise unless doing a bit of digging. I wondered what the comments were all about before, think some were posted on here even.Anyone have any favourites among non-dairy organic milks in the supermarkets?

They never seem to have much choice in organic versions in the main shops so I tend to get non org if I want a specific one ie choc or hazelnut etc for a recipe.
If I go in Waitrose I sometimes pick this small one up just to keep in the fridge for convenience as it's long life, almost as expensive as the Waitrose own larger carton but still saves me some money given that I rarely use a whole one of this size even. Prefer fresh ideally.

I never drink any of them on their own though to know what the taste is like.
A&C do a small range of organic soya products (Sojade mainly), I've only had the cream so far and the choc desserts but prices seem reasonable.0 -
alfsmum - the Riverford contents were on there last night as I was writing down lists... I desperately need a cucumber though this week for the pets, hmm wonder if they are short then all week.
Edit, it's still there but there's a new postcode box I hadn't noticed on the boxes before.

I've not been around much. hugely busy but still on the organic wagon lol, unfortunately DH's contract is up at the end of the week so i'm going to have to be very careful with the pennies for a while. Got my last riverford box coming next week as it should be free then that's a bonus. After that I am going to switch back to the marketside orgaincs one as that was great value for money.0

lindseykim13 sorry to hear about OH
Marketside Organics as in https://www.marketsideorganics.co.uk ?
Hapshade they deliver to Winchester
I find that if I do a big shop at Ocado but less often, I can tick over for a week just on Abel & Cole and Riverford - but it makes life a tad more difficult if I run out of foil or shampoo for example. It also means I miss out on offers and can't keep topping up the freezer, so I think I'll go back to having a Saturday morning Ocado order.
Haven't had a chance to really look at the Riverford website but when I called to see if they deliver to the part of E Sussex we're considering, I was told there had been a few teething probs. I've done beta testing myself and developers think more logically than end users who catch them out every time
Kirri - do you eat the cucumber yourself as well ? I found some of the organic ones are such a strong flavour that I don't actually like them
Can't comment on the hand soap as I bought a load of Enliven antibacterial stuff from Shorters Club before it stopped trading and haven't finished it yet.
As for soya milk wouldn't touch it.When OH and I first lived together we used to eat soya basically five nights a week and we can't bear it now. Have had some nice soya desserts though in France. My mother has a thing for them and gets them at La Vie Claire https://www.lavieclaire.com Can't remember the brand name ATM sorry

^ You can still add the orders in on weeks you're not ordering on Ocado and the prices don't change so no need to miss out? I do need foil myself, trying to cut down on use of it but I normally buy the value stuff - just means I will have to go in a Morrisons/Asda to get it
I do eat some of the cucumber when I get a look in and I guess it tastes like the ones I grow as the flavour was fairly intense on them so I'm probably just used to that I guess, I thought they were nice
Still faffing over my delivery - might go for the A&C gourmet box instead this week, has a nice selection in and is a bit cheaper/smaller and I'll just add a few bits on. Still got a few bits left from this week. Might try the hoisin, more tofu, eggs and need to choose some fruit. Trying to stick to 'basics'.
Lindseykim13 - ditto, I am trying to keep to a budget, should really be 'shopping' from a foodbank at the mo given my circumstances, but I can't face that sort of food..
Am cooking with the A&C supplied Sojade soya cream tonight, think that all comes from France iirc.0
