got home after a long day without internet, suffering from internet withdrawal symptoms and looking forward to a page of posts...but no posts
yes i'm that sad, looking forward to posts on organic food.
I forgot to include Clipper organic tea in my order, next time....but i got 90% dark chocolate, organic milk, Mr Organic Italian organic ketchup and the organic tofu. i got free range eggs too, and the situation ended up with my neighbour insisting eggs are high in cholesterol and i should not be eating them, i've noticed a lot of people think eggs, cheese, milk are bad (ok they were right about the butter) Actually come to think of it, female flatmates over the years have always tried to stop me eating eggs and it got really tiring every single day to be told don't eat this
Last week a conversation about me giving up Coca Cola went why don't you just have Coke Zero....i decided to not even get involved in the conversation and smile and say yes perhaps i'll check out Coke Zero. How do you all deal with other people?? Personally I think its a fantastic idea to give up Coca Cola and divert all that money to organic, healthier food.
Since I got the Biona Cider vinegar though I really want chips.
If this is too far off topic, let me know, i can delete.0 -

Poster says "My branch are not going to stock them any more, hence the reductions so maybe worth checking other branches."
I noticed in my online Sains order for Friday that there was very little CJ stuff available, just some dried peas/lentils. Also there was no Sains organic brand baking products either - hopefully they were just out of stock, but it's a bit worrying.
But had another Ocado 15% off code sent to me so took advantage of that for Thursday.0 -

Just ignore all the comments. You get similar ones as a veggie, I think people feel threatened - certainly the big companies do! Lol.
I can recommend Waitrose organic oven chips to go with the tasty Biona cider vinegar! (Is it the one with the 'mother', that one is good...).0 -
Thanks
yes it is that one and I had it with the Waitrose organic chips too a few days ago but didn't end up ordering more chips today, maybe next order.0 -

Chuckling here.. I sometimes find myself thinking ' where is everybody ?'
Eggs.. bad for you, all that cholesterol blah blah.. well recent research shows that there's no real connection between dietary cholesterol and cholesterol levels, because your liver makes most of the cholesterol. It's something in every cell so you need it.
I'm wishing that I had my old (fried) laptop right now because I had loads of bookmarks and I can't just pull up the studies.
Docs may say avoid foods high in cholesterol, if you have high cholesterol levels and that makes sense to a point. But the overall level of cholesterol isn't as important as type.
High levels of HDL cholesterol would be good, high levels of LDL, bad. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hdl-cholesterol/CL00030
IMO eggs should be regarded as a superfood they are packed full of nutrients to feed that chick and they are such a versatile ingredient too.
But if your LDL levels are high or your overall level is high it may be that you have what is called familial hypercholesterolemia which is inherited. In which case DO DO stick to GP's advice. So if a cholesterol blood test comes back high I suggest asking questions not blindly accepting statins. A practice nurse tried to give them to me just because I have Type 2 diabetes, although my cholesterol is excellent.
Maybe Fire Fox has links in her bookmarks ??? <gives Fire Fox hopeful look> then you're armed against the eggs-are-bad-for-you rant.
I gave up Diet Pepsi in March 2012 and had horrible headaches. Doc smirked and told me it was caffeine withdrawal. It's easy to Google caffeine withdrawal and find out ways to deal with it. I just took paracetamol. Not great but doesn't last long and saves me well over £200 a year.0 -
Waitrose organic frozen oven chips.. I buy these for OH and he likes them. He's still plowing his way through the Sarson's malt vinegar0

I also find myself checking in here often lol I find theres always loads of posts when I'm busy and none when i'm looking for stuff to read!
Anyway today I finally managed to get to b&ms and managed to find the organic raisons I went looking for. 59p a bag so I bought about 10! Should keep the kids stocked up for a while and I might pinch a few.
Also took order of my goodness direct order all looked fab-got oats and rice so assume pretty standard tasting as haven't tried any yet. The kids like the jellies i'm not keen on the apricots though they aren't very sweet and quite dark in colour.
Can anyone explain the difference in the types of dried apricots? I've had really nice sweet bright coloured ones which I love but not sure why these aren't the same.0 -
sophlowe45 your post brought this up in my mind soo...
If you are being treated within the NHS, which most of us are, be it for something short term or long term, the key thing to remember is that NHS staff cannot go against NHS policy. If they do so, they could get fired.
So you may read new research on the Internet and find that X way of treating <insert problem> here has changed but GP is still advocating doing it the old way.
What you have to realise, is that it takes long time for research to get evaluated (double checked if you like) before the NHS will say OK we'll do it the new way.
There are some exceptions, for example at the moment there is a drug fund for cancer patients to get new drugs which haven't gotten NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) approval yet. Even so, they are likely to be drugs which have been approved and used elsewhere in the world.
If you go into your GP's surgery waving a page from The Daily Mail, your GP is likely not to take you seriously. But if you show him/her something from a medical or nutritional journal or study then s/he my take you more seriously.
However, the GP has taken an oath to do no harm, so won't advocate doing anything which could have a negative effect on you.
If you're healthy, there's nothing wrong with tinkering with your diet at all and eating less processed junk and food without pesticides is very very likely to make you more healthy.
If you have any health condition, however I would urge you to consult your GP about making big changes and be prepared to back up your stance with proper research.
Yes, I've gone off piste with my diabetes. But I did so after doing a lot of reading and emailing with doctors and researchers. I get pincushioned on a regular basis to check my health and if it was deteriorating I would take the necessary steps.
It does feel great to be very much involved in decisions on my health but I had to show my GP and consultant that I could be trusted not to do anything stupid. Even so it was really scary at first.
If you don't have health problems though then choosing to live your life in a healthier way is a great idea and you don't need to consult anyone.0
