Baby Fund Challenge

  • I have taken £2000 from baby fund to make an overpayment on the mortgage. Will save us loads more interest than it earns and I have set up a standing order for the remainder (£3250 ish now) to go into baby fund over the next 9 months. As I'm not yet pregnant I have the time to do it that way.

Hope everyone else is doing okay.

I seem to be making a habit of this.....:o

Baby fund raided to pay off our car finance early and save a bunch of interest. Standing orders etc all adjusted to pay the car payment amount into the baby fund. Thanks to not having to pay for the car while off now and our new frugal lifestyle with the shaved bills etc I have also be able to recalculate what we need to have saved. All of which means in the next 9 months we can save what we need to cover my maternity leave fairly comfortably - the same sums going out just to a different destination. Not pregnant yet so still got time on my side. Ideally I'll get pregnant Right Now and then the timing will all be perfect!!

Hope everyone is doing okay. How are you feeling chelseablue?

    Lovely news :)

    How is everyone else doing?

I have had an odd start to the year with a bout of depression and anxiety. All a bit bad but doing better now. Bit of time off work, seeing doctor and referred for counselling. Getting better though and have at least laid off the self medicating drinking / going out / shopping. :o

Mr Delta got made redundant in February and so we are on one income now. He's going to college for a whole new career and will be fabulous at it. However in the short term (2 year course) we'll be a little tight for money.

So, changed plans. We are still trying to make a baby but I will be looking at just 6 months off instead of 9. It may be that we will be able to put a bit extra away but if not, all fine and Mr Delta's redundancy pay is being stashed for this purpose (and some for rainy day as well).

    So, £6400 is done!

Thanks for the support and wishing everyone here all the luck in the world for baby plans.

Gosh, I haven't posted for the longest time - so sorry for abandoning everyone!

Oh peonie, that's such lovely news, congratulations!

Echo, you will get through it and don't give up on the baby plans. Whilst I wason maternity leave things were so tight financially for us but I didn't care because I was so happy with my boys.

As for me, my boys are about to turn one (can you believe it!), and I will be starting up my own baby fund again in the next few weeks. Although we don't want to start trying for another baby just yet (I think we'll wait another year at least), I know how quickly a year passes so I will spend the time saving -and properly this time!

Although we have saved alot of the boy's things, there are a few things that will need replacing as they have had so much use. Also, if we were to have a girl we would need different clothes and a few other bits obviously.

So my savings will start soon - good news is that I got a new job a couple of months ago (just part time) so I have some spare pennies floating around.

Hope everyone is well, please do update if you can. I'd love to hear your progress!

Hi ladies, today I used the statutory maternity calculator on the gov.uk website and I think I've unknowingly saved enough to cover 2 maternity leaves plus quite a bit after that left over! Which is great as i don't need to worry about saving again and I can fill my IVF pot.

I'm wondering if I've miscalculated. How did everyone else work out how much they'd need?
