What's your pet hate about comping?

All these 1st of the month same old newsletter subscription type comps, does anyone ever win from them? I can't be bothered with them, prefer a set date one off comp.
Companies offering something so small in return for likes etc, ie a small choc bar for some adult co. Cheapskate promotion!
Companies asking too much ie design something - just because their in house creative team can't be bothered, they offer some small thing in return for lots of free ideas..
So many comps to a random non well known (or even un named) place/spa/restaurant/B&B etc with no county mentioned.
A vague title of some object with no idea what the actual thing is.
The amount of bumped posts, I know lots of things are useful to add but even so it's a huge amount and if I don't look to see why it's bumped from the day before etc I don't know if it's important. Even worse when something is bumped from days/weeks back just to say it's ended
Hmm time to go to bed maybe..0 -

No once again I'm just thick!
I can't spell simple as that. But you are welcome to come behind me around the forum correcting all my spelling mistakes if you wish, you could be my very own spell checker :rotfl:This Post Has Been Sponsored ByChocolate0 -

Lovely idea to go around explaining why they should not bump the boards but I have a life outside of this forum & don't have time

Right then I have made a decision to not come into the comp chat bit of the forum as every day there are people having a go at me for the following:
1, Comping Police which I find offensive
2, My spelling mistakes, we can not all be good at it, I don't see this as something that should be picked up on all the time
3, The fact I choose to uphold one of the forums rules of not bumping the threads as it disrupts the boards
I am way, way too poorly to put up with this harassment on a daily basis.
So carry on no doubt I have made a error in my writing above, call me names if it makes you feel better, or bigger than me it won't worry me as I won't see it :rotfl:
Be lucky & win loads of lovely prizes so I can congratulate you in the I won section of the forum

I too have the pet hate of "should of, could of, would of" and it really astounds me how many people use of instead of have. I see it on here, lots of other forums I visit, newspaper article comments and mostly on Facebook in comments.
I do feel like saying to people as maybe some people really do not realise the mistake however you never ever know how it will be taken no matter how polite you try and point it out.
Love the story above about the tattoo though, absolutely classicThe best things in life are free.....0 -
I just want to clarify re bumping. The actual rule, copied from MSE rules, says:
"Can we "bump" threads? For those that don't know, "bumping" is where a forum user who hasn't received a reply to a question comes back and replies on the thread to "bump" the thread back to the first page of the board it's on, making it more prominent.
No, we'd rather people don't do this as it annoys others. Questions are sometimes not answered because the information is easily found elsewhere on the site and forum. If your question's not been answered try searching the MoneySavingExpert.com main site then the forum."

That, I think is the bumping rule for the whole site. In the specific Comping Rules Martin just says
"8. No Bumping Of Posts. Please do not just bump posts for the sake of it. This disrupts the boards. "
The Comping Guide says
"Please note: Don’t reply to the post "thanks" or "just entered" etc. This will bump the thread back to the top of the Forum which can result in eager MSE Compers entering again by accident. This is very frustrating as they can then potentially disqualify themselves. ‘Bumping’ is also against the Forum rules (which I asked you to read in the Introduction). Don't be a bumper!"0 -

I'm sorry but i find saying 'I have a life outside of this forum and don't have the time' when from your own comments you say you are one of those policing the forum to be quite funny. I have no axe to grind as i am quite new and don't know anyone or their history on here. On another note i have noticed even in my short time here that a lot of posts saying not to bump are coming across as arrogant and are really putting off new people wanting to stay and become a permanent part of the community. A lot of them find the way they are spoken to offensive. Swings and roundabouts. On a personal note as others have said I could care less what a normal member says to me. In one ear and out the other and I certainly wouldn't take orders from one.August-September 2017: Lots of stuff

Thanks for that Lilias, at least I know now where the 'rule 8' thing comes in. I appreciate you posting that
However - there was obviously going to be a 'however'...
I still think we need a little flexibility. I do get that it's a bit irritating to be subscribed to a thread and it being bumped for nothing important, but surely people don't subscribe to most threads. With Puzzler and TAB and some where you need effort and/or help it makes sense. But for example, there was a comp the other day and the prize was for something a bit gruesome, can't remember what. A couple of people made a fun comment about the prize. Wasn't worth linking it to a new post in the CCC, it wasn't going to be that big a deal. Now then, for me, I like a little of that here. It makes the forum feel friendlier and more of a community.
The trouble with the word bumping is that by itself it doesn't make it right or wrong. There are obvious valid reasons to bump, i.e. a problem with the comp. There are obvious times when not to bump, i.e. just for a casual thanks. But for most other things, it's open to opinion. I don't like it when a comp it bumped to say how near a target number of likes/shares a comp is. I've missed heaps of comps because that happens. But I realised ages ago that I was flogging a dead horse over this, so let it go.
Just to say to Luckyone, please hun, don't take it personally. I honestly don't think anyone is having a go at you, it's only about seeing it differently and discussing it. I hate to think of you feeling got at. By taking that issue on, you kind've put yourself in the position to gather various opinions about it, but I am sure that the aim is to try to persuade, rather than attack. In the end though it is your call what you want to do. We all have muddle through together, liking some aspects and not liking others. I don't take offence at anyone who see things different to me. In fact, I appreciate hearing other opinions, whether I agree or not. As in One Yorkshire Lass - we hardly ever seem to see things the same way, but I never take that the wrong way, and I suspect she would say the same - I might be wrong
Sending happy and warm fuzzies to everyone here :beer:I am brave, I am bruised
