Twitter comps that do not do a random draw and instead pick from the "top tweets".
  • 1) Sob story entries in the comments on Facebook "I think I should win because my mother broke a nail in 1974, I've cared for her ever since and have been unable to work as a result"

    2) People being unnecessarily (and falsely?) benevolent e.g. "tell me what you'd do with your prize if you won?" and someone comments "I don't want the prize, I'd like you to give the value of the prize to a children's charity instead please"

    (I'm not hard-hearted, just cynical!)

Posts like 'I hope you don't mind' or 'sorry for bumping' followed by a comp update, coming across like they're preparing to be flamed by the comping police for daring to even go near that 'Post Reply' button. (It's an arrestable offence you know, under Rule 8) *sarcastic laugh*

Haha, I've started putting 'I hope you don't mind ...' on some posts, especially when adding something the OP has missed that I feel is important - like strange T&Cs, or that you have to be a member of a site or something like that.

I did once get a sarcastic reply to something I posted, so since then I've tried not to be so blunt about stuff .... although it's sooooo difficult! :D

INSTAGRAM entry comps - I don't have a smartphone or an ipad so I can't enter.

Comps that ask you to submit a video to win a camcorder - if I HAD a camcorder I wouldn't need to win one! When I complained to a company running one of these comps they told me to just use my phone to take the video - my phone won't take videos moron, THAT's why I want to win a camcorder!

My biggest pet hate is an achy hand/wrist from comping so much haha

I also hate facebook competitions.....even though most of my wins have come from it!!

And those competitions that ask you to do loads, like this, share that, tweet here, comment there.....My god, I don't have time for that :rotfl:

I have opened comps up and closed them pretty much straight away on more than one occasion!!

My pet hate is my own daftness. I just managed to do a survey and then pressed submit without putting in my email address to enter the prize draw.

I have been known to put the wrong answer to a question despite the correct answer a) being obvious and b) clearly stated in the original post.

And frequently despite a post stating 'watch the tickboxs' pressed submit and then notice those pesky tricky tickboxs.

Must pay more attention when comping....

Confusing tickboxs and complicated captcha's are my more general comping pet hates though

I always do silly things like this too.

The worst one for me is when I enter email competitions. I always forget that I have copied and pasted the company's email address. I normally realise after about 20 minutes that I have been pasting their email address instead of mine into all the subsequent comp entry forms :rotfl:

I feel sorry for the company as they will have got loads of emails thanking them for entering a competition they haven't entered, but also worry that I will never know if I won any of them!

Generally speaking I'd agree but you know a lot of compers do enter everything in the hopes of a win (I don't myself but I can see how you'd get carried away) and some people on here could use the money that might come from selling a prize. I get where you're coming from but also understand why people may on occasion sell wins in times of need!

  • as it's just been brought up and jogged my memory (yes, sorry I just bumped a post, but was answering a question) I thought I'd ask, why do people subscribe to threads?
I find it a convoluted way of working. Isn't it easier to just bookmark threads?
