Lets gets back on topic. Squidqy her opened this forum thread with a question. She went on to set out the facts as she saw them. Her daughter missed some gym sessions, she was offered alternatives which were awkard for her to attend, she asked for a refund and was berated. She referred to the T&C which confirmed you you attend alternative sessions. She never posted anything that would identify the man or the gym apart from saying it was a charity. She asked for MSE views on the situation. These were given. Most were apalled at the mans apparent anger management problems. Most managers are trained to deal with irate or awkward customers so he should have really had the skills to deal with the situation.
Sadly one poster decided to PM Squidqy with the sole aim of getting her to reveal the name of the gym so she could identify the person. She didn't tell Squidgy that she then intended to correspond with the gym manager to get his side of the story. If she had I doubt she would have been given the name of the gym. Not satisfied with this initial deceit she the posted the contents of the PM (PRIVATE MESSAGE - there is a clue here its meant to be Private) because she knows the gym and the person involved she feels justified in doing this. Just because she knows him doesn't mean she is aware of how he behaves at all times.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

vanoonoo wrote:if I miss a week at slimming world I generally have to pay. I am allowed two "free" week in every six month period to cover illness and holiday, however I can always attend another "class" in the area or even out of the area by arrangement. I can stop attending and restart with a rejoin fee if I am going to miss more than two weeks.
things like that are all about commitment. the overhead costs are there regardless of if you turn up or not and by not attending you've possibly deprived another child of a place.
you've been offered an alternative which also didnt meet your requirements so now by a gesture of goodwill you've been offered a refund. hoorah.
pm's and other sacred information being made public? happens alllllll the time. fol.8 9

Well....damn near anyway!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

I have read your mail and I firmly believe you need to get things into perspective! Having attended this gym with my 2 children, twice a week for the past 3 years, the manager and the staff are overtly friendly, helpful and very supportive.
Having a child with a disability, this man and his team have helped develop her confidence and physical capabilities, and I have nothing but praise for all of them.
He has developed this gym into a well respected place, and I find it really sad that you feel you need to publish your grievance on the web.
Most people are very respective of the policy that you have quoted, and how sad that a charity now has to spend money on rewording the pamphlet.

Just because your experience has been good with the gym and people there, doesn't necessarily mean that everyone will have the same.Torgwen.....................

lady_noluck wrote:Squidgy confirmed to me which gym it was and I have to say i'm shocked. My daughter has been going to the same gym for the last 3 years without a problem. I know both the man in question and his wife and not once would I doubt their ability to look after children. There are certain things that need to be taken into account before everybody jumps up and down about social services etc.
1. The gym does state sessions that are missed can be made up however as it's a mothers and tots group there are only certain days on which this can be done. The leaflet clearly states which days mums and tots are on. If you miss a mums and tots session you can make it up in another mums and tots session. Not ANY session as there are over 750 children in all age ranges going to the club. It wouldn't be safe.
2.Squidgy was offered the chance to make up the session during the week to which she turned down due to the daughter attending nursery. She was then offered a place in another monday session, to which she also turned down, any 2 year old would be knackered doing 2 classes in one day. The only other days would be on the weekend which isn't an option. Older children are trained at the weekend and you can't put a 2 year old in with a 10 year old. I don't see what else the gym could suggest.
3. A refund was requested 3 times which was refused. I know it's horrible for a child to be ill but it would be too complicated if the club started giving refunds for every missed session.
4. This is the reply to me from squidgy.
I want to apologise to squidgy for misleading you in my pm but the replies you had to your post really got to me. I'm sorry you had a bad experience and i'm sorry if the above sounds harse but everybody has judged the gym from one side and I didn't want people to get the wrong idea about the club.
The manager replied to me and i'd like to add a few things from his e-mail.
As I said, I don't want to upset squidgy with this post (and i'm sorry if I have) but there are 2 sides to a story and I feel the posts that followed the original were getting out of hand.I only hope that this will now NOT escalate out of this chat forum

^its a bit too late for that by the looks of things.
i have refrained form giving my personal opinion on the matter because i could see things escalating. however, to protect the good names and right to anonymity of all involved, im taking it upon myself to PM a moderator and ask for this thread to be at the very least locked, perhaps even deleted, becasue i feel things are going too far, in the sense that things are getting personal.
this is without a doubt the friendliest and most accepting board i have ever been a part of, and even if the post was started in good faith, IMHO the tone it has adopted since then goes against that grain.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -

As an example you only have to watch 'Pop Idol' where someones friends tell them they are a great singer ... were the friends taking the !!!!!! or were they just to scared to tell the truth (some people need better friends). Another example is that DW knows that if she asks my opinion then she is going to get it ... she used to storm off in a huff but then everytime she asked me 'What do you think?' I used to say 'Whatever you want me to think?' ... which she realised was even less productive ... she now accepts that I am going to be honest (e.g. 'It gives you an !!!!!! like a sumo wrestler', 'Its very nice in my grandmothers curtains sort of way', 'Oh, has that come back into fashion' etc.)
There is a major difference between face-to-face discussion and board discussion. On a board you are more likely to get genuine answers without all the usual PC BS around it. I would be more inclined to trust some things said on a board than I would from a face-to-face conversation ... as a nation we are deplorable at giveing negative feedback.... we always seem to take it personally. Generally comments made on boards are not personal but some people take them personally. That is illogical ... the person does not know you, the only information they have is what is contained in the posting ... how can it be personal. You do have to be a bit thick skinned sometimes.
Some people were wondering what I was thinking since several of the comments were towards me ... I even sent a PM to Fran saying that I was '!!!!!! myself laughing' (I retain copyright of my own PMs) - and I am still laughing at the picture on Frans posting and some of the other remarks. I may not agree with what others say and I may argue against others comments but I always try to respect others points of view .... particularly since they are so obviously wrong.
One poster did make a 'fubar' by posting someone elses PM ... this is not good board etiquette ... but it happens ... it has happened previously on this board and has happened on virtually every other board I partake in. It should not happen and the way to protect is, in the PM, make it clear that you do not want its contents made public. I could go on for hours about the pros and cons of this but there is a phrase involving the words 'spilled milk' coming to mind.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
ivan, i can see your point, and its not so much the bickering and god forbid, people daring to think original thoughts that have nirked me. its the fact that people's anonymity has been compromised, as has that of the facility, and the good name of the OP, lady no luck, the facility in question, and the people who have magically appeared from the 'real' world to put in their two pennies worth as well.
i just have visions of this whole thing getting libellous.
love you sig btw - makes me giggle every time i see it!know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0
