Are they like Eddingtons veg storage bags?0 -
Both so similar I would decide which is least likely to try and scam you in the car park with a set of crooks parking firm and their paper clamps.Be happy...;)0

I don't know, not heard of Eddingtons bags.
They look like green plastic food bags, and I think are coated in some sort of enzyme. You can reuse them a few times, they don't go on forever. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I shopped at Lidl for a year when I lived in student halls as it was only round the corner. Then I moved to a flat near Aldi the next year.
I'd go for Aldi every time. The fruit and veg is fresher and lasts far longer in my experience and you can't beat the super 6. Meat is much fresher and better quality too I found.
Lidl is good for random stuff. I got cellophane gift wrap for £1 from there last Xmas, it's really hard to find and very expensive in places like Hobbycraft!“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. Hi,
After reading on this forum about how people have saved loads of money with no or little drop in quality I decided to check out Aldi and Lidl on my day off.
I didnt buy anything just had a look round both shops and to be honest I must admit I wasnt that impressed.
I usually, based on my detailed accounts breakdown :money:. spend on average of £37 a week on food shopping, including cleaning stuff dishwasher tablets etc etc. everything bought from Morrisons.
I know its not a huge amount but I live on my own.
I was just looking at seeing if I could shave a bit off this as ive been through everything else.
Not because I have to stick to a strict budget but im just trying to save a bit. lets face it, its easier to spend than it is to earn!
anyway:
Aldi:, Id say that it was significantly cheaper on some items than I was expecting, Bread was the main one Im used to paying £1.45 for a full size loaf but Aldi had similar for less than £1.
Veg was also very very cheap Id say carrots were around half the price compared to what im used to paying in morrisons. but the limitation was that nothing could be bought loose ( unless im missing something)
I wasnt so impressed with the fresh meat department. I often buy diced lamb for a Lamb hotpot but aldi didnt do it. Nor could I find Steak Mince although the regular beef mince was alot cheaper than morrisons.
Lidl, I dont think is for me at all. there were alot more named brands for a very minimal saving. again the meat section was limited but atleast they baked "some" bread instore.
I dont know if these shops are for me really, the savings that I think I could make are barely worth the risk of buying the things to try. and going to more than one shop would get real old real fast.
I cant help feeling that Im missing something tho, Aldi was really busy. should I just take the risk and fill up a basket with say £10 worth of stuff and try some things?
Aldi chicken breasts are about 50p cheaper than Mr S and much less gristle/fat.
The multigrain batch loaf is better than most branded bread I've tried and freezes really well, the jam is just as good as Robertsons for raspberry, the ground coffee is fine and strong, toilet roll is much cheaper and the £1.99 for 9 rolls stuff is just as good as Velvet.
The cheddar cheese is significantly cheaper (£1.99 per block rather than £3.99 for branded cheeses) as is their own brand of Philadelphia, milk is cheaper (although wont last as long as Cravendale), chocolate is just as good as Cadburys.
Fajita wraps and naan breads are much cheaper than Sharwoods/Old El Paso etc. and just as good. Fizzy vitamin tablets are much cheaper than berocca and my OH loves them! Vitamins in general are cheaper and my mum swears by their Lacuna make up, face cream and sun cream. Tissue cubes are 10p cheaper than £land.
If you cook your carrots usually, just chop up the excess and freeze. Same goes for onions. I live alone at the moment (OH is away for work) so it suits me fine.“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. ALDI every time, foods cheaper, tastes better too, I also find that ALDI is much more cleaner and the staff are more friendly too.YNAB is my new best friend.0

Aldi gets my vote. Their Super Six is unbeatable and better than most major supermarket's basic range. Lidl has weekend special but I don't find the deal that much a bargain anymore, or at least in the past 6 month. Staff in my local Aldi are so much more friendlier too.0

Lidl have some seriously cheesy rolls. You know the kind...they are cheese topped...most supermarkets wave a wee bit of cheese over the top and you'd be hard pushed to find it whereas Lidl's version just looks like a whole cloud of cheese been deposited on top.
Damn. They are in my mind now!Herman - MP for all!0 -
After reading some posts on the money being saved by swapping supermarkets I decided to try Aldi today. Have to say I was mega impressed :T
Can not believe how much we saved compared to our usual shopping at Tesco!!! A whopping 31% :T:T I did have to pop in Tesco and pick up a couple of things that were not in store at Aldi, daughter only likes a certain turkey ham on her school sandwiches & bin liners at Aldi were slightly on the thin side so I picked them up too but overall am very pleased.
We will most certainly be going again next weekIt is what it is...0 -
Lidl is better if you like Continental meats - chorizo salami Bratwurst etc. It will also normally sell coke / pepsi for 99p per two litre bottle which the mainstream boys can only do very occasionally. Their occasional hardware / electrical items are also better as are cleaning products (with the exception of washing up liquid.
They are on a par for wines and booze generally - though I prefer Lidl Gin. Aldi are better for fruit 'n veg, bread, olive oil and they seem to have a higher proportion of "Which" endorsed goods.
I am happy to shop in either or preferably both on alternate weeks. Where I live Lidl is across the road from Waitrose so I can do most of my shopping in Lidl and then cross the road for posh foodie type stuff!Which is worse - ignorance or indifference?
Personally I don't know and don't care :think:0
