Aldi vs Lidl, which is best?

As others have said, it's swings and roundabouts.
I shop more in Aldi. I like the store better as my local Lidl seems grubby and like a bargain warehouse but this is probably because there is hardly any natural light in there. Aldi has light flooding in and looks a lot better. This means I can also see the products better so I want to shop there more. I also find Aldi to be slightly cheaper and of more variety for things like dairy although Lidl does good meat.
I love the super 6 that Aldi do but I also like Lidl half price weekends. Both of these offers can be hit or miss though - some weeks it'll be things you eat a lot and others it's things you don't touch with a barge pole.
Both have themed weeks where they bring in products from a different country or for a particular style of cooking and I like this a lot.
If you do try either remember to take your own bags because they charge for them and recycling never hurt anyone. I got caught out by this today because I wasn't planning on doing a shop.2015 Wins

Aldi for me the veg in Lidl is very poor.0

Aldi is better for me but Lidl does fab swirly chocolate spread, sliced gherkins for subs, chocolate slop pudding (blancmange?) and pasta sauce (the one with the green lid). And the potato salad in creme fresh is toooooooo nice.
I do a week about.0 -
Aldi if only for the Beef Wellingtons which after months away are now back in stock.0

I do the bulk of my shopping in Aldi but get a few things in Lidl too, (dishwash tabs, gerkins, chicken thighs, irn brew, and a few others.) I do also take in waitrose on the same trip as it is across the road (all three are on the same roundabout) and they have awsome whoopsies0

Not a regular visitor to either as it is a trek to get to them but from what I have heard they are both eating into the main supermarkets profits.0

Interestingly, in many taste trials, both Aldi and Lidl get good reviews for some products. before we moved here Lidl was actually the nearest and was within walking distance, so I used to pop in there a lot. I've had some excellent finds and some carp. Used to love their tortilla chips, which have now gone; they did a cereal a bit like Jordans and half the price which was yummy. I found the coleslaw disappointing and the french bread type pizza inedible, but other than that I was happy. Lovely for continental foods though, and Christmas lines with a difference. Many items in the W5 washing range are Good Housekeeping Institute approved, too.
There is shortly to be an Aldi opening in a realistic travel distance; I'm looking forward to going there.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
