Aldi vs Lidl, which is best?

  • Aldi seems to have more groceries we buy, and the steaks are much nicer

I prefer Aldi for most things as they seem higher quality but are also cheaper, what I dislike about both stores is that more and more standard brands are creeping in, I can get those anywhere and would rather have Aldi and Lidl own brands to choose from instead!
  • Aldi is extremely convenient for me, Lidl isn't at all so I've rarely been in there. However my impression is that Lidl sells many more branded goods than Aldi, and as I rarely buy branded goods at all I don't really know whether they're cheaper than elsewhere, so am less likely to buy them.

Aldi sells lots of 'lookalikes'. The Bramwell's range of sauces is really good and very cheap (mayonnaise, ketchup etc.), as is Magnum washing up liquid. Their bread is not bad either, and not too expensive. The Super 6 offer is good, definitely better when it's 39p rather than 69p!

Only one way to find out......

    Fight!

Personally find Aldi slightly better myself but pretty much on a par and worth trying both to see which you personally prefer.
Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. It was so good we removed it because we cannot think of one so good as you had and need to protect others from seeing such a great signature.

I prefer Aldi but go to Lidl occasionally to stock up on a few favourites: Special museli (we like the blue bag one), dishwasher stuff, frankfurters and now their Christmas specials are in. Stollen is yummy and I love the chocolate covered marzipan bars.

I can do almost a full shop in Aldi these days with just a small top up in Sainsbury's or Asda (wine, fresh fish, larger meat joints).

I think I would rather shop at both LIDL and ALDI regularly than lack knowledge of basic punctuation - each to their own.

I shop at both stores, I have been surprised by how much I like LIDL recently and their Christmas line in particular has some really nice bits.

It really depends what you're after:

Aldi - I think it's better for the basics, fruit & veg, tinned stuff etc. I get my clearning stuff from here and there can be some really good deals in the frozen section (tuna steaks & chicken breast with no added water are my regulars!)

Lidl - as they do more brands it's better if you've got anyone picky (though always worth checking if it is cheaper than elsewhere), and I prefer their continentual cold meats (really good salami) and their Xmas ranges are very good indeed (I think they got a Which best buy for their Xmas pudding a couple of years back)

Also of course it's worth keeping an eye out on their special offers. Their cycling/running gear is good value (though I wouldn't buy shoes there!)
