All this man has seen when you hit his car is an irresponsible driver hit his lovely Mercedes. He's mad, of course he is. I beleive that he has tried to frighten you and its worked by the sound of things.

Perhaps its a good thing, you can learn from it and be more careful in future, his car was obviously there and you cant have looked properly, this will teach you to do so better in future, I;m sure you agree with me.
Life is a learning curve. lol

You probably wont hear anything at all.

Yes definitely its a big lesson for me. I will be more cautious in the future now. Thanks again for assuring me with your words.
  • No point asking Morrisons for the CCTV footage, they will only hand it over to the police or by court order. It would be worth asking them if they can make any point of saving the footage (assuming there is any) incase nobody approaches them straight away as they will usually delete it after 14 days.

I am pretty sure you could put in an Access Request under Data Protection, pay the appropriate (£10 I think) fee and get a copy of the CCTV which features yourself.

you say that your wife was in the car, next time if you think that somewhere might be a bit tight to get out off, then ask her to watch you and warn if you get to close. I would recommend having some items in your glove box, like a disposable camera with a flash (in case of night time incidents), take pictures of everything, damage, approach roads, anything that might have affected the incident, pen/pencil notepad, also cyalums (glow sticks), your lights might not be working after a crash, and a couple of fluorescent jackets. I also have a first aid kit and some cheap disposable poncho's, amongst other things, all of which i have needed to use helping other people out.
With reference to the incident, dont worry, if there is no damage, then there will be nothing to pay for, as for him being an off duty cop, this has no bearing on the situation, and he doesnt need to show his id.

    According to the ICO website:
You have the right to see CCTV images of you and to ask for a copy of them. The organisation must provide them within 40 calendar days of your request, and you may be asked to pay a fee of up to £10 (this is the maximum charge, set by Parliament). This is called a Subject Access Request. You will need to provide details to help the operator to establish your identity as the person in the pictures, and to help them find the images on their system.

As such I would probably request it in writing via your local store, mentioning you wish to make a subject access request under Data Protection for images taken on their CCTV (identify a camera first which would have covered the incident, and let them know which one). Providing them with a rough time frame, and what to look for so they can find the appropriate images of yourself.

I have never done this myself, but have known people who have successfully got imagery from multiple sources.

EDIT: And it is probably over the top to do this, unless you feel the other guy is claiming excessively against you. However as it could take some time for him to claim, and you only have a certain retention time on the footage it may be worth getting...

Yes you are 100% correct. Next time i will definitely ask my partner to look out. As i recently started driving so dont have that much of experience in handling these kinds of situation.

But yes for future reference i will definitely keep disposable cameras with me.

In the meantime, relax, so many incidents cause broken bones, etc, etc, and even death, no one was hurt, its only metal, sleep well.
Have you only just passed your test or just started driving again from a long break.

If you passed your test a long time ago, sometimes its best to go for a refresher course.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
