As much as this sounds like a !!!! take I just want it to be right! I want to know I can make sure the lights are all off when changing a bulb by setting all switches to off!
I just didn't know if it was really as simple as switching the wires round!
And yes I could remember which swich is wrong but this wouldn't help if I sell the house and some poor sod electricutes themself!

Upstairs / downstairs light switches always switch on and off to the opposite of the other switch. Sometimes through luck they match. Yours, mine and everyone else's like these are the same. If your at all worried then turn off the light circuit at the fuse box.0

I think the clue is in the phrase 'two way'.0

there are more important things to worry about. do you ram your fingers into the fitting when you change a bulb? i don't even check whether a light switch is on or off when i change one, i'm just careful. and i've got to 42.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0 -
The reality is it's only visually wrong. Anybody who hasn't the nouse to realise that a two way circuit for hall/landing lights will be energised from both upstairs and downstairs lighting circuits and both must be isolated to work on the wiring shouldn't be picking up a screwdriver in the first instance. And yes I could remember which swich is wrong but this wouldn't help if I sell the house and some poor sod electricutes themself!

Even if that were true, who the hell is going to know?Yes but we aren't allowed to touch electrics
Many years ago when I was an electrical officer on Cunard ships. We changed thousands of incandescent lamps every voyage. The vibration of the ship ensured that they had a very short service life. Never, at any time did we switch the lamp off. For one thing they were wired in batches of at least 20-25 and there was no local switching in any case. These were Edison screw lamps and not as easy to change as bayonet cap lamps.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

Yes isn't that how you test if it is on or off? Ok ok so I am being OCD!!!
The question has been answered I can just switch the wires round.
