Sounds about right.

My pet hate is 'soft' towels that don't absorb water!!
True story - rock'n'roll stage towels are usually specified as 'black, pre-washed' so make sure they're more absorbent (than new towels)!0 -
I prefer scratchy rough towels too! I really dislike soft, fluffy towels that just slide over the skin without drying properly.
So you are not odd at all, Lostinrates :-)

I love a line dried rough scratchy towel too! Can't wait for the summer to do them on the line instead of the tumble dryer. While I'm loving that I can dry my towels easier in winter now I own one, the sacrifice is horrible soft towels. So the easiest remedy for the OP is a tumble dryer, or iron your towels as another poster said.0

Doesn't ironing towels flatten all the loops and make them unabsorbent?Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
Send them to me, I hate new towels till they've had at least 3 washes at 60!0

OP, is there any way you can line-dry them? Ours go rough & scratchy if they're dried indoors, but I've managed to get almost all of them dry this winter outside, even if once or twice they've been out there for 4 or 5 days. We are right down South though which means we're not as cold as some areas, but it's wind that does the trick, drying-wise.Angie - GC Jun 25: £309.06/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

Throw a few table spoons of sodium bicarbonate or bread soda in the machine with the towels, it will strip any residual detergent from the fibres of the towel. It will help a good deal if the water is soft. Hard water areas your efforts will be merely reversed upon the next wash or two.0

Are you still using soapnuts, that could be the reason?

No, towels have been washed in plain water only on hot setting.
Soapnuts have worked well for other general laundry though, must update the post.0
