    Xmas Saver!
Put soda crystals in the machine with the detergent, as it is a water softener.
Then tumble dry. You can let them dry by hanging until they are just damp, then tumble.
I always respin my towels to get as much water out as possible.

White vinegar in the 'conditioner drawer' instead of fabric conditioner helps to get rid of the remaining soap residue on the towels and so leaves them soft. Make sure that you don't use too much detergent - it's the excess remaining on the towels that leaves them hard.

    They won't smell of vinegar!

I also give them an 'extra spin at highest speed' - that way if you DO have to resort to the TD, it won't take too long.
  • I don't own a tumble dryer or have an airing cupboard, I line dry or use an airer and over doors.
I have my towels folded up in a wicker basket which rests against the radiator this tends to make them fluff up and get softer.

I prefer a slightly harder towel if I am honest.

It seems that putting the towels in the tumble dryer for 10 minutes BEFORE putting them on the line keeps them soft.

NO HEAT is required in the tumble dryer. If there is a cold setting, then use that ...
