  • Towels soften up if they are ironed.

I think I'll have to draw the line at ironing towels! I only do the bedding because OH likes it ironed otherwise I'd just give it a good shake and put it on (oh the shame)
*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*
No new toiletries challenge - use up the stash first!

I love hard crunchy line dried towels, I hate the soft fluffy jobbies that skate all over you and don't dry. Velour towels rate right up there with chocolate tea pots for me.
  • As the title really........

I do have a tumble drier but really try to minimise the use of it. I use Fairy non bio (only one I've tried that dd's eczma doesn't react to) and one of the pure type fabric conditioners. I don't use a lot of either as I can't that "sticky" feel that clothes etc get with too much fc.

    Any suggestions please????
  • White Vinegar and put the towels on the line fo a good blow- it really works and no your towels won't smell of vinegar but they will smell lovely and fresh
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I don't have a tumble drier but have no problems - my towles are soft enough ;) They dry indoors on a creel in bad weather and on the line in the summer.

I'll add this to the existing thread on soft towels later.

BTW - you're advised not to use fabric softener at all with towels, as it reduces their absorbency.

  • I will try the vinegar, and leave out the fc! Thanks!

I wonder if it's because our water is so hard?? My mum has a water softener fitted, and even though I know she tumbles hers, they are kitten soft and lovely and snuggly....

I second that. Very good for softness!

Hiya, I have the same problem with towels unless I put them in the TD for 90 minutes. I dry them on the clothes dryer often to save on electric and they are hard. Even on the line it is the same, I live in a hard water area.
The micro fibre ones do not seem to go hard but not all the family want to use them.
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
    Spring begins on 21st March.
  • Kim and Aggie recommend putting a couple of clean tennis balls in the dryer with towels instead of fabric softener. I haven't tried it though!
