I wash my towels and put some soda crystals in to wash with them too and this seems to help keep them white. I also put my towels in the tumble drier. You only have to put them in the drier for about 10 minutes and then continue to dry them as you would do, whether on the line or on a radiator. That few minutes in the tumble drier does the trick.

Hard towels will dry you better than fluffy ones!

Not necessarily! if towles have gone hard it can mean they have lost their absorbancy! the ebst way to make your towels fluffy AND absorbant is to soak them in soda crystals and hot water and then wash them as normal in the washing machine and use white vinegar instead of fabric softener. found it on youtube and it works a treat!

I like nice crispy towels too. I agree with the OP that soft tumble dried towels don't really dry you very well.

I quite often give stuff a start or finish in the dryer to either hurry things along or prevent the need for as much ironing, but I NEVER put towels in the TD!

OK, I lie! I put the ones in that I use for massage, but only a few minutes to just soften them.

Can't say I'm especially bothered by my towels being hard - they soften up pretty quick when used.

Perhaps try using the towels more regularly?

We dry our towels over an airer then when they're dry we pop them into the tumble dryer for 5-10 mins to fluff them up.

    Works for us.

    That's how I do it.

We start ours off for just a few minutes in the TDryer and then actually dry them on an airer. However, giving them a good, energetic shake whilst damp does help fluff them up. Also, putting them in the TDryer on a cool setting will fluff them up a bit but not actually dry them, if its the cost of running the TDryer you are concerned about.

I have been known to iron my towels (with lots of blasts of steam) then leave to air. But to be honest lifes too short and I already feel i'm ironing for the whole street!!

A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.
