i expect it depends how hot you run the washing machine and whether you tumble dry afterwards. i suppose that running the washing machine on 30 degrees or below would pretty much infect everything you put in the washing machine with a bacteria ridden tea towel as i doubt normal washing detergent would do anything. that said washing separately wouldn't really do much as the machine would still be full of bacteria after you took the tea towels out (the only thing a washer-drier is good for is disinfecting itself...).

i just chuck everything in together though. i suppose you could wash the tea towels separately on 90 degrees with a load of bleach, but i cannot be bothered.

dish cloths get chucked in the bin after about three uses round my way...
Most bacteria on your skin will be dead in an hour, but damp fabrics like tea towels could be a source of infection for quite some time.

As Chewie says, washing at 30 degrees does little to bacteria and 40 degrees would bother most pathogens but not kill them. 60 degrees would kill most bacteria that would worry us.

I'd be confident that the detergent's going to scramble most of the bacteria's cells, so I'd bung tea-towels in the wash and I'd tumble dry them as the bacteria need water to survive.

I bung the brushes in with the dishes too. For all my ecological worries I'm not at all luddite or even sensible about dishwashers and if I had to give up mine I'd feel I was in the Dark Ages. :(

Straightforward thorough cleaning and hygeine's probably all you need though. We'd all be sick a lot more often if it wasn't for the modern habit of cooking things and then eating them staright away rather than storing them afterwards

I don't know Margate at all, but this seems pretty good value - 5 beds, modern, for under £120k. What's the problem?

This house sold for 108 I think....it's in the HMO zone.

Margate isn't an area I would do conventional BTL as there arent enought of the 'right sort' of tenants and there is a stack of 1 beds coming onto the market as the LHA rate won't cover what they used to get.

Latest gossip is the biggest property on the strip, owner called us did we want it? She carved it into 3 1 beds and leased to a Housing assoc. It would be perfect to convert back to a house.
If anyone wanted to join in the regeneration of a little strip in Margate, then I can fwd the number. :)

PS The Bungalow has been on the market three weeks today.

Good luck with the sale.....BT is easy to move to next property. They do insist on doing a new contract and router but easy to move after 6 months no penalty.
    RIP Special girl.

I cannot believe it. So quick, so shocking. Part of my soul has gone with her.
So sad to read that, had no idea she was unwell.
How is ex polo pony? I can't recall his name. Losing any pet/animal is so upsetting.

Shame Sunday Times can't be linked any more as there was an article in Style mag called ' Hipsturbia' with the gist being the arty types move to cheaper areas but take their tastes and lifestyle habits with them....which then changes the areas bit by bit.

They write about Whitsable as the change has almost completed now (and now we can't afford it) but Margate was mentioned too.

It suits people who can port their work and aren't relying on the local economy so much for their income...they can live anywhere (within reason).
I can see our design studio moving down there if we get priced out of the riverfront place.

A fully loaded A-rated dishwasher uses less energy than washing by hand if washing on hot water.

I looked it up very very thoroughly when we got ours.

In the lab, we clean everything using alcohol, and UV so a splash of vodka and sunlight will do the job very well :D

not quoting fc but it looks really nice and the place isn't as bad as I thought it would be for the price you paid (with a sea view!). But then I am totally skewed by Bton-prices.

    IT"S SNOWING!!!! :(

my peas and broad beans are still outside but not planted in. but still.. snow :(

Bugs let.....are you watching crufts now too? Today would have been 'our day' had we gone this year. I like some of the terriers up tonight.

I would if I had a TV, really must get my internet connection at home sorted so I can watch on catch up and not have 10 page of NP thread to read at once.

I went on Thurs for the Toy and Utility day. I could have one of every breed if only time and finances allowed!

An email suggests our issue of concern today has gone as well as could be hoped with findings at the positive end of the possible range so thank you all for your thoughts.

Have no idea what is going on, but that sounds like good news for you.

Lir sorry to hear of your sad loss but it was a miracle that you both were there to comfort her in her passing...

Many thank's to vivatifosi, PN, silvercar, GDB2222, LydiaJ, bugslet, zagubov and fc123 and anyone that I may have accidently missed in your kind thoughts and wishes for the sale of our Bungalow. So nice to have such special friends linking our keyboards together over the miles.:)

My OH and I have never had a dishwasher in any of our homes it is just the way we have always been used to I suppose, some of the people that have viewed our home have asked where the dishwasher was hiding.

One Lady that asked that question said well thats ok because we don't have one either, funny question we thought.

Back to winter today as we woke up to snow.

I sent kind thoughts but not kind wishes yet. Please take this to be kind wishes too!

It's weird what people will reject a house for. I've seen houses where other viewers just turned around and walked out because they didn't like the furniture. It made me want to say, "You do understand that goes with them don't you?" but I didn't.

The weather here is great. Autumn is the best here as the weather is warm and dry. The evenings are cool but it can still get up to mid-high 20s in the day. Sunday was about 28C. I got a small triangle of sunburn where I forgot to do my chest where the v in my t-shirt is! It's still pretty painful.

She was in robust health, but slipped and suffered a paralysis from the fall. ( she had arthritis which she had injections for last year, it's probable there was degeneration in her spine, probably in her neck, which lead to this)

Old girl is continuing to astound, still here, and the herd are huddling together for comfort. The vet was just so fab yesterday and we were all a bit tearful. After she 'went' we let the others out to see her,.....it helps them to understand. Hopefully they will come and get her body today.

Probably not a terribly tactful thing to say just at the moment, but it's nearly always going to happen with most of the pets people have, eg dog, cat, or horse. I think that parrots and tortoises have pretty long life expectancies, but I can't imagine ever getting attached to one, anyway. So, if you have a pet, you have to remember/enjoy the good times, and parting is, sadly, pretty inevitable.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
