I now know two more things about cars.
You can stall an automatic car if you drive it up a steep enough hill. No big deal of course, and that's what all those extra settings were on the automatic gear box.
Secondly, if any car gets a flat battery, once you get a jumpstart you should get it checked free at Halfords (who're usually open till 8PM) to see if its got more than a pathetic 41% charge on it. Before it flattens again costing you another breakdown callout charge because you were too lazy to check the first time

Jump starting any vehicle is usually one of the first warnings of possible problems that are just around the corner.:(

Winter and the cold temperatures that come with it drains even the best of the batteries, the distances that you run with the vehicle can soon drain the battery if they are only short ones, because you are taking out more than you are putting back through the vehicles charging system. I usually put my cars battery on overnight charge just before Christmas and then usually I do not get any problems.:)

We once got some aggro guy asking for a jump start from us in the defender with a huge battery. I said no, then second time explained why it was no, third time shocked dh by saying, 'you know what...fine.....but then how are you going to get home when we fry your car?'

SB says that she will be making more calls to the Uni' staff but as she says the reception in her Halls are never there when she passes through due to the odd hours of her lessons. I think that the girls have not been making any noises as of yet as they are not well organised.:(

Tasha has always slept in our bedroom ever since we have had her so we cannot complain really. We live in a Bungalow so every room in on ground level. hank's for your concern.

I can see that living in a bungalow does rather put the kibosh on the idea of moving Tasha downstairs. :)

I don't know how Vodafone make money out of me. Sim Only, 300 mins, free vodafone calls, 500Mb data. Usually use them all up. unlimited texts too. All for 10.50 a month. I've had the same phone for 3 years, they can't even sell me another one. happy days! :)

I'm with GiffGaff. I last topped up with £20 last summer, and I still have over £10 left. You lot must be on the phone an awful lot.

I don't understand. Is the defender more than 12v?

Wouldn't the current be the issue.

I don't understand what I'm talking about, naturally, but google tells me that my stupid car has a battery with something called CCA of 500 whereas the landrover battery has a CCA of 800 to 1,000.

I have no idea what any of this means.

We had a super battery a mega one, much bigger than 12v. My old series three had a 12v I think.

I just know better than to fry people's cars with a HUGE battery from a or like ours. (In fact thinking about it, I am not sure we don't just have two twelve volt batteries in series there ATM......not thought about that heap of junk for a while actually).

Tbh, defenders take such a lot of juice to start and by the nature of their use get a few short trips (which is why so many are left idling when farmers are looking at foeld margins etc while people tut because idling they go through fuel a lot too) that its pretty selfless to jump start from a battery that takes so much strain anyway.

Edit: plus, it's really annoying to lift the seat out to get at the defender batteries when all your junk is beautifully wedged where you want it in its place in the vehicle.
