You may as well get a take-away and eat it in bed.

The number of restaurants that offer a take away service seems to be increasing and moving upmarket. Some nice little italians round here offer a take away service. Unfortunately they don't reduce the price which seems unfair as their costs must be lower.

I suppose they are less likely to make money selling you they extra glass/bottle of wine too though?

Selected from famous art schools like the Rietveld Academy and the Theaterschool, we have singers, performance artists, musicians, DJs and we have... you. Yes, you are a part of the evening too, just like everybody here. Simply laying down on the white bed and waiting 'till the show starts is not enough. supperclub isn't a theatre or concert stage, it's more. You can join in and interact.

Sounds like an orgy, the fact it is Amsterdam confirms it!

Even my local gastro pub does takeaways. Not had one. But the thing is, it's nice to get dolled up, innit.

Looks like it's near my old work. Used to get the likes of Madonna and other sundry slebs sloshing around keeping the bar prices higher than a kite. There was a cinema there whose seats were about a tenner a head, but all the chairs were sofas so you could laze about as if you were at home. Used to love places like that as I hate standing round. Much prefer pubs with sofas!

Of course now all cinemas seem to be about a tenner a head plus you pay extra if you use a card for some reason - oh yes I remember- it's greed.:D

Actually as NPs should look out for each other I wonder if the nearest NP to Glasgow (probably just PMed him) might want to contact the website I just linked to and find out if they want to expand to the UK's second biggest retail area. Might be a bit of money there - only guessing.

    Cinemas.....

Miles from where we live, always too cold, too loud volume....painfully so, no pause button for loo breaks, kids armed with sticky food, eensive, Kurd to eat.

At home, snuggly with dh, and the critters. As close to the right temperature as we can make it, loo breaks. Volume control. Decent food ... Usually. Bottle of wine as no one has to drive home.

On the recession question. They have been big demonstrations out here on the cost of living. The locals aren't happy that the government aren't doing enough to keep prices under control. A lot of building and construction going on, so positive signs. I've met a few people in this block (new build) who say they haven't yet sold their previous home (about half are living here full time rather than holiday homes). That maybe a compromise between not wanting to be sell before their home here was ready or because they don't want to lower the price.

That's interesting. I had a relative who considered moving there about fifteen years ago (long story) and I asked him whether he'd be better off there or here, didn't seem able to figure it out. I'm betting he never even went to check things out.

I heard the local standard of living's comparable with Europe but also hear more nuanced stories that hint the salaries are Southern European while the prices and costs are Northern European. Which would explain the demonstrations you mentioned perhaps.

I did admire a local trade union leader who complained that public services were being treated as the piggy bank of the nation which if clobbered with a hammer would release all the money it was supposedly hoarding. Sounds like they may have the same short-term-thinking in their leaders that we're having to put up with here.:(

I always noticed in America the standard of living was clearly higher than here and they seemed to have Southern european prices with Northern european incomes.

But Gen, Australia I can't fathom- I've seen all these shows about people relocating south and it looks an incredibly close call sometimes.

Not thinking of moving myself, by the way. Far too old!;)

It's so, when you come down to breakfast the next day, the staff know who was drunk the night before as they're the ones with melted chocolate in their hair. Those people can be given extra coffee/pain killers/bacon/local STD clinic recommendations as required.

How embarrassing, I've done that. Melted chocolate goes ever such a long way. Not only was it in my hair, I can't begin to tell you what the sheets looked like:eek:. In my defence, I can't see in the dark and had got into bed with the lights on low and had no idea there was a chocolate there.
    Cinemas.....

I've posted this place before, but Herts NPs should check out this place which is a wonderful night out at the cinema. It's working to open a sister establishment in St Albans too..

I'd move there in a shot when my parents pass away but I'll be too old. I'd then have more close family there than here so its a weird situation. On the earlier subject of working in the middle of nowhere, one of my cousin's daughters works in a big mine in QLD in the middle of nowhere. She started in catering but has moved onto driving really huge vehicles, they prefer women for this task as they aren't as macho apparently. She earns more than anyone in the family now by a country mile. Seriously big money.
