That's interesting. I had a relative who considered moving there about fifteen years ago (long story) and I asked him whether he'd be better off there or here, didn't seem able to figure it out. I'm betting he never even went to check things out.

I heard the local standard of living's comparable with Europe but also hear more nuanced stories that hint the salaries are Southern European while the prices and costs are Northern European. Which would explain the demonstrations you mentioned perhaps.

People seem to work a lot longer for less money, but have a more relaxed lifestyle. Also jobs that we consider well paid in the UK, like dentists and doctors, are not that well paid over here. People seem to take on 2 or 3 jobs. Most families have both parents working, childcare is widely available and the norm, school times are geared up to working parents. Benefits are available but there is a requirement to work, so your stereotypical single mum with young kids would need to work to get the benefits, without working she would have no benefits so no income, by working she pays out in childcare but can access benefits. Wide choices of childcare are readily available. Unemployment seems low.

I know... my mum used to make it when I was younger.... and I also know that it has to be kept outside/away from the house as it can explode.

We had a few explode over the years. Nasty mess it leaves.

I have nowhere to keep such things.... I've also never fancied clearing up broken glass :)

    Plastic pop bottles :)

They're designed to withstand high pressure. If you drink enough pepsi to start 2-3 bottles going, then you have enough to recycle it for a few weeks. The fridge is the best place for them really.

    Ah.
No fridge space for that though - as it'd take up the entirety of my fridge allocation.

Although, as a scaredy cat, they'd still have to be outside.

Brrrr. Cody cold cold cold. And misty out side. Haven't done what we wanted to do this morning in the fields because it's so damn misty. We were duped by yesterday's lovely sun and thje dry forecast for today that today would be the same.
