Yes I put it in quotes hoping it would make it obvious I'd seen it. It was the film that prompted us to visit. (Admittedly we saw the film some years ago when it first came out, but we got there in the end)Lovely jubbly!
Flight or train? Got some airmiles/avios to use up and looking for ideas, but mainly for northern France/low countries.
Got a friend who lives at Ramsgate and his local pub has an endless list of imported Belgian beers, like fruit beers, wheat beers etc.
The landlord is always over there on trips scouting for new things to stock. Mind you, you spend half the evening out trying to pick form the colossal menu. By the time you've agreed on the order for the next round, you've sobered up again!:D
Train. Easy peasy, just 75-90 mins when you disembark.
Far more convenient (not to mention cheaper) for the 6 of us who went to hire a VW transporter van and go that way than it was to fly.
Not a fan of fruit or wheat beers but there's plenty to Belgian beer without needing to stick a strawberry in it.Yes, but...Can you name 5 famous Belgians (excluding Wheezy)?
This was something we discussed, admittedly without a target. I got as far as Herge, Van Damme, Poirot, Merckx and Henin. Not too good I'm afraid.

It's only 175 miles from London!!
That makes it only just a bit further away from London than I am, even though I've moved 200 miles closer to London. I've always seen those furren places as miles and miles away .... but if you're in the South East they're really close aren't they.
Grimsby or Bruges for the weekend, roughly the same distance .... I guess there's no contest is there.0 -

What an interesting idea!
Hmmm....flat champagne at Christmas? In there's tingly I have also found any loud tannins in wine unbearable now, spicy food is put the window and lots I normally like tastes weird or not right. I was expecting the last one, but not the others.
Steak tatses amazingly good, better than ever before tbh, but I seem to want it more medium than rare, for example, but mustard or horseradish....no thanks. Salt I am not meant to have (and thankfully do not crave) but pepper is also yucky now.0 -
13 gallons of apple juice today to be turned into cider. However, we don't drink that much cider so, any advice on preserving the apple juice properly so we can keep it?

It feels closer than where you are, better rail connection. Friend of mine goes between near me and near you and was booking a train, here (not the station we use, but our second choice station, was much cheaper and much faster). The Eurostar is fast and I found it superbly comfortable, so it feels even less of a hassle than the uk side travel.
I was surprised to enjoy it.0 -

absolutely not possible to squeeze even an iota in there. we're packed with beans and courgettes and any meat from waitrose. even the bread has been expelled to the fridge.0 -

Hmm. Time for a second freezer for the earliest months of winter till the crops have been eaten down a bit?0
