    Do any NP speak Latin?

I have a very rusty recollection of Latin Mass (which is beautiful when sung), a selection of Hymns and Carols and the odd bit from an O level class book involving the tale of a girl called Flavia .

Since that time the odd bit of law in latin has taken residence in my brain but otherwise that is the sum total.

If you do speak it what do you use it for?

Nikkster has been to my house, so I would hope she trusts me. Odd yes, stalker of women, no. :)

I'm not a stalker. But were I a stalker, I'd definitely stalk women. What's the point of stalking men?

Speaking of which - agency rang me back on a different number to the one I called. I googled it to check. I also told my workmates that I was going to see a house and if I wasn't in work tomorrow to panic. I put my handbag in the boot whilst at work so I wouldn't be carrying it meeting random agent (though it probably makes quite a good weapon).

Maybe the limp estate agent handshake was part of the lulling though?

The Latin book - was it called Ecce Romana (or something like that) - we learnt Latin for 2 years at secondary school using those books!

There were girls called Flavia and Aurelia (?) and boys called Marcus and something else (Cornelius?)... I think

Edit: here is a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecce_Romani

And the children were Marcus and Cornelia, who had a friend called Sextus (we were very grown up and NEVER sniggered at that name. Ever). The mum and dad (should that be mater and pater?) were Aurelia and Gaius.

Actually speaking Latin is quite rare. Being able to read and translate is less rare.

If you really mean speak it like a language, I remember that one of my children's teachers was in a Latin speech group in London. Possibly this one http://www.circuluslatinuslondiniensis.co.uk/Links.html

I notice that GoogleTranslate reckons it can make an attempt at translating Latin.

Edit: "speak it like a language" - what did I mean, I wonder? Probably I meant speak it like a living language.

I have rusty gcse Latin. Dh speaks it pretty well (and ancient Greek...but not Hebrew...which seems terrible to me....just saying, if he spoke Hebrew there would be more peoplle to chat with). Anyway, we mainly use Latin to scold each other, or to say 'Christ is risen) at easter. Dh and one of his university chums chat away ion Latin which is really odd, their accents are so different it sounds like two different languages.

Edit: I do actually say pater and mater sometimes, tongue ion cheek, mainly. And tempus fugit I say to dh too often. Sort of daily..he can be a dawdeller. I cannot think how to write dawdell but if you say it you will know what I mean.

We had the Cambridge Latin books, I can say the names but I don't think I can write them.. They lived in pompeii.

I've never learnt Latin but have picked up bits when teaching anatomy bits and all sort of science-y type things. I wish I knew more as my guesswork would be much more intuitive rather than deductive
