Nice people thread part 7 - a thread in its prime

Another thing I've learnt today! I had always assumed that 'long in the tooth' meant the teeth stayed the same but the gums receded with age. So, it's interesting to hear that's completely wrong.
. Gums do recede a bit, but the main thing is the tooth dropping down (mainly to replace wear.
The other notable thing that makes them look longer is that instead of being straight ish up and down...a bit like 'l' they start to slope forward more, like this '/'. So as well as being longer they look longer. Horse teeth are really interesting and a good equine dentist can usually make all the difference.
Ironically old girls teeth are so remarkably good for her age that the dentist has said more than once 'well, it won't be her teeth that kill her'.0 -
best wishes to old girl.
not going to try and read back as i am about to do a bit more work. i really could do with another 2 or 3 of me.0 -

Thinking of special girl here too. I very much doubt she could be anywhere else and get more love and thought over treatment.
Look away now lir...
I just had a bath. That was the first time I have had a bath in probably 10 years (before anyone says anything clever, I have showered regularly in the interim). I think I nodded off a few times
(I was propped up with no risk of head underwater). I feel nice and relaxed now, but think I will be going up the wooden hill to Bedfordshire sooner rather than later tonight!

The alleged misconduct was apparently totally unconnected to his academic work, does that make a difference?
It is conduct or capability and very serious to warrant dismissal. Most likely conduct such as fraud, theft, drink/drugs, bullying, harassment, improper relationships.
Sorry Silvercar it is usually very hard to sack a senior professional and not done lightly. It is expensive to get it wrong (damage to reputation etc). That does not mean he may not be successful on appeal nor that everything he has ever done was wrong but as it stands he is not 'quality' referee.
Other examples of referees who have fallen in social standing to attest to integrity and quality might be :
Chris Huhne
Former Directors of Mid Staff Hospitals
Fred Goodwin
Bernie Madoff
All quality in their time....but not any more.0 -

Thank you for your (united) opinions on DS's referee. It appears he is appealing his sacking, so maybe he could be usable after all. The alleged misconduct was apparently totally unconnected to his academic work, does that make a difference?
I'm afraid that unless the appeal was upheld, AND the individual absolved of wrong doing, I wouldn't use the reference. If it was enough to get a sacking through the system (as spirit said, not trivial), then it does suggest some fire behind the smoke. I would think it whatever it involves would involve breach of trust on some level.
As someone (missk?) mentioned, if your DS is applying for a job in a related field, chances are that they will have heard/ will find out by searching, and if not, I'm sure he can get an equally glowing reference from someone else? Was the work published anywhere? Was anyone else involved who could be contacted?0 -

Will catch up on the rest of the thread later but have some news
James now has 3 conditional offers!
I have one very chuffed 19 year old right now....and I am a very proud mum.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0
