You have made some very good points through your own experience with EA and that is appretiated.
We have a figure in mind that we would be happy with and we have no set date to meet so it does give a little more comfort and peace of mind.
Our Bungalow is a well presented and we think average for the area which does give us a rule of thumb to work with. It has a family bathroom with walk in shower and bath, wc etc also an on-suite bedroom which would seperate it from the normal 3 bed Bungalow.
It also has a quite large modern Edwardian style Conservatory with a well stocked med sized garden.0 -
Our Bungalow is a well presented .... with a well stocked med sized garden.
Your garden is the size of the Med! That's huge. I mean it's not one of the biggest seas or oceans in the world but still it's pretty big for a bag garden. I'd be happy with a garden the size of the Bristol Channel TBH. Even then I've got an electric mower and I don't think the cable is long enough to get around.0 -

Good to see that you still have your usual good sense of humour, new job must be working well for you.:)
Have the flood waters receded around your area?0 -
Thank you for your (united) opinions on DS's referee. It appears he is appealing his sacking, so maybe he could be usable after all. The alleged misconduct was apparently totally unconnected to his academic work, does that make a difference?
In his position, I'd probably ring up prospective employers and ask. "I'm applying for xyz and I'm not sure what to do about references. I did some work for Prof A a while back - he knows all about my work and has written me a reference based on that. Unfortunately he's been dismissed for allegedly doing abc, although he's appealing against it, and obviously it's got nothing to do with his academic work, and nothing to do with me at all. Should I still give him as a referee, or would you prefer me to pick somebody else who maybe doesn't know my work so well and can't tell you so much about me, but isn't under a cloud?"Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Have the flood waters receded around your area?
New job is going great, I'm really enjoying it thanks.
We didn't flood and were never in any real danger of it either as we are close enough to two rivers for the water to flow straight past us and into them but high enough above them that the waters simply can't rise enough for us to flood.
Up in Queensland and Northern NSW where they got some proper flooding I think even the really remote stations (large farms) are now clear. When there is extensive flooding up there what tends to happen is that most areas clear but some ones remain cut off for weeks. If that place was a town the RFS or SES (Google them: they're fascinating volunteer organisations) would get pumps in and get the water out but that simply isn't possible for large remote areas. If required, food will be dropped in to them and medical evacs will be arranged. Most farmers want to stay on the farm if at all possible to look after crops and more especially livestock.
On this occasion as the floods were caused by a one-off event rather than weeks or months of rain, the water has managed to drain into rivers and lakes so it's all gone down again quickly.
That's good news in lots of ways. It means that people can get on with the clean up and not worry about a quick repetition. It should also minimize the economic impact as farmers should be able to save most of their crops although I understand that there's been an impact on citrus farmers. Southern QLD is a big farming district as they can grow a lot of European crops year round.0 -
.
Delighted to hear such positive news in your area. I think I read on a previous post that your dwelling was about 30m above these two rivers which gives you great comfort.
Flash floods are a nightmare wherever they happen but in areas that do not experience them regularly then there is a chance that recovery is made sooner than later and farmers can at least salvage something for their hard work.
I just wonder how many countries would survive without the fantastic and unselfish committments shown by Volunteer Organisations around the world. God bless them.0 -

It sounds really nice, and I hope everything goes well with the sale.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Gay, I am having a horrible day.
Old horse is still here but it's bad news. Annoyingly the main reason it's bad news is because it's not very bad news.
She has an infection in the root of her tooth, but it's not clear whoch tooth. If it were clear because it were very rotten the answer would be simple...we would pull the tooth, easy peasy, but because ironically her teeth are in amazing condition, it's not that simple. I feel categorically taking her away for surgery would not be in her best interests, considering there is NO longterm for her, only medium term at best.
We have out her on some antibiotics to see if she responds, but it's a short term solution because the cause of the infection will not be removed and the irritation and infection will recurr even if the antibiotics clear it up. It just gives us time to think about things and possibly plan. She has three weeks antibiotics, and we should know in a week or so whether she is responding to them.0 -

My experience with antibiotics is that you know within a few hours whether it's beginning to work. So, perhaps it won't be so bad.
Poor Old Horse. I hope that by 'think about things' you don't mean what I think you mean?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
