We are sometimes not as nice as we should be.

No but, we often agree to disagree, or suggest the subject gets shushed on and we respect that pretty well I think.

There is far more kindness here than in most places in the world.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. :)

Dog already chipped here. I'm legal in advance.

Last night I saw Brian Cox talking about Paramecia. Why? He's a cosmologist and should stick with stuff you see through a telescope not a microscope.

I could have done the show for a considerable discount. And I would have mentioned that Paramecia have 11 sexes. Did he mention that? No he did not!

    Oh and hello aliasojo!

I live within about 30 miles of Herts. And lived in Scotland too. Some of the others down south here have lived up there as well. There are NPs in far-flung places, too.:)

Gay marriage - I don't really know what I think. I don't have a problem with gay people having their relationships recognised any more than straight people. Part of me doesn't think its necessary to call it 'marriage', but I do like lir's suggestion. Seems like the fairest all round really.

Dog chipping - say I have a dog. My dog has babies... how does anyone make sure they get chipped (I am not a particularly responsible dog owner)?
(no animals were harmed in the making of this post)

    Edit: bloody babies again!

Not really. The same themes occur...in jokes too. But you'll pick up on them if you like us and hang around. :).

I've been watching his biology programme too, its quite enjoyable and I think he presents it well but I too was a bit confused as to why a physicist was trying to be a biologist. And I noted the microscope/ telescope thing too. (Although that is a bit rich from me as I am more of a jack of all sciences, master of none - well doctor of none, I technically am twice a Master of Science)

I think the key is probably that he is a very good science communicator, and the programme has a good team of biologists behind him. I am probably wrong but I think his Chair is for science communication rather than cosmology?

I like my suggestion too. Separation of belief and state. Good, good.

Dogs, I think it will be like orses who are meant to have passports now...and sometimes do not. It's actually an example of making legislation that's easy to break and hard to enforce and makes a difficult situation IMO.

I think it's a great IDEA, I just think in practise, it's .....well, I know in horses it is not working as well as it should. I am guessing dog wardens and the RSPCA will be expected to have scanners on them at all times and vets be required to check at each appointment and it will all be a rule followed by mainly good owners and breeders.
