Good heavens CK, that sounds almost as bad as selling your house and buying silver.

He asked for it, so that's what we got. It's on £319/month (+ VAT) over 4 years, but that is fully maintained, so if anything goes wrong with it, they get it back.

I think letting OH buy that bar was a little like buying silver, as I'm spending more time in there now then I ever was before (he says as drinking a JD and coke)

Don't quote the 3rd para, I'll be deleting.

Just click next assuming £0 is right? Simples!
    Fail.

PN I feel your pain in having to complete such a silly form, I understand that they assume that those reading it think in the same way that they do and can not understand that some people think literally rather than understanding nuances.
    I think....

The thing is it's a tax form, therefore there should be no room for nuance. That's when people start to fill it out wrong. They should be more straightforward. What happened to the plain english campaign?

Oh well, tomorrow signifies 365 days until we risk incurring a pentalty for not filling the next one out on time.

Tomorrow also signifies the day we see the next acct and fnancal planner. we might try. I really hate choosing these people...it's not like lots of other jobs where conversation demonstrates skill n a wy I get, or where I feel the person and we are of accord. It's something w have obviously failed to adaquately guage in the past.

Cheers. They make it far too complex for my simple needs.... and I do check, double-check, then sleep on it.... and gather and mark up and cross reference every figure, every piece of paper, everything... and only when it's cross-checked, double noted, highlighted .... complete and in a neat pile, do I get to the SUBMIT stage.

Personally I don't even bother to fill it in accurately. The chances if hmrc investigating me are so small they are basically irrelevant. I just estimate things like bank interest. Unfortunately if you have schedule D income then you're far more likely to be investigated - especially if you are not declaring much. Hmrc seem to deliberately target sole traders declaring low income, presumably because they assume they must be hiding other income.

Chose the accountant you like the least. I don't trust he ones with people skills, they're always technically rubbish. You want the one who is a terrible bore who can only make conversation about tax returns.

My turnover was super low too - so they probably go after people who have a good turnover and high expenses:turnover ratio :)

Over the years I have found that the questions have changed from being fairly simple, similar questions every year then it all changed and it all became so ambigious that the Help Booklet became the size of a small novel trying to clarify the meaning of the questions. I think that they tied themselves into knots designing these forms.

I think that the originators of these forms think that we all work in administration and filling in forms is second nature.

I maybe not the sharpest knife in the drawer but I do my best.

It ended up that I had to get my wife to fill them in because she worked in a Wages Department and was more familiar with these types of forms.

More likely they will think you are under declaring turnover.

All mine is PAYE so I don't have to bother with a self assessment form, but I do have to do a tax credits form in April, and that's bad enough. It asks questions that appear to be very simple, but it's never clear exactly how they apply in the circumstances, and the people in the examples they give are alwyas in situations utterly unlike mine.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
