By the way, darling daughter's Nissan Micra has been written off in really quite an inventive way! She took it into a garage for servicing, and, whilst they were extracting the oil, the machine they were using exploded and sprayed about 50 L of oil over the car. To make matters worse, the windows were open.
It is remarkably difficult to remove all traces of oil. For example, the surface of the seats looks clean enough, but the oil has settled into the foam padding. Oil has penetrated the seals between the window and the door, so the window gets smeared with oil every time it goes up and down.
Anyway, it is not our problem. She is getting some cash, and the garage's insurers are getting the car, which will no doubt appear on the market as a category D write-off.
A horrible waste of one of the best cars you can get.I still see the one I sold to a workmate and sometimes get jealous. Anyway I hope your DD gets enouigh to get another one!:)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Sadly, she has a propensity for hitting things, so almost every panel had some minor damage. The compensation figure reflects that. So, no she won't be able to get an exact replacement for the money, but she'll get some wheels. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
We managed a bath this evening. dh is still in it now. It's crazy to be living like this. But the bath has helped sooth my aches and banish my grumbles. I think I may be getting a massage in a bit too.0

Congratulations MsK, all done with out any of the silly procrastinating and debating whether I had the best possible deal that I would have done.
I'm also glad you aren't driving an AX any more, I think they were one of the lightest (ie flimsiest) cars ever built. I definitely would not have wanted to be in an accident in one.
I needed a car by the weekend and this was the most sensible solution
But thank you.
I do feel much much safer in the Fiesta! I know what you mean when you say it's light.
I feel like I should be banished to MSE naughty step for what I did this weekend :rotfl:0 -
vivatifosi wrote: »Thanks Gen. There are rumours on Twitter that a tornado has hit Hervey Bay, but that is not substantiated and one feed is denying. The emergency svs in Qld has put out an announcement saying if you see tornadoes etc, call the police emergency number, don't stick a post on Twitter. The road between Maryborough and Hervey Bay now cut off, as anticipated.
The worst of it should just be clearing that area soon. The last warning from BoM was at 5.20am (it's now 8am up there) and that said the most of the rain was in that area and that the storm is moving at about 15kmh. The radar seems to show that the last of the storm, which also seems to have some of the heaviest rains, is now passing over with the storm centred over Brisbane.
Just to give any interested NPs a flavour of things up there, Burnett Heads, about 50km north of Hervey Bay, has had almost half a meter of rain in a day:eek:. That is a lot of water.
Surf Life Savers have put out a warning saying that you shouldn't go surfing in a cyclone or tornado. You'd hope that would be something that people wouldn't need to be told.0 -
Thanks Gen. They have been hit overnight and the first pics are now surfacing on twitter. I've emailed family to check on them but no answer yet. There's no point calling as being in A&E, anytime something like this happens they aren't home anyway. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I suspect that A&E will be pretty busy for the next couple of days. It sounds like the first casualties are hitting the hospitals up there at the moment.
It amazes me how well small communities deal with stuff like this. There is hardly ever any major loss of life despite the huge property damage. If this storm had hit PNG or Indonesia I can't help but feel that the outcome would have been far worse in terms of loss of life. We are very lucky here in Australia and indeed in the UK. I think we don't realise just how precarious life is for most people in the world.0 -
DD is also scared of the dark. QUOTE]
My daughter (25) sleeps with the light on.
For the first 6 years of her life where we lived there was a street light immediately outside her bedroom. Our house was on a bank above teh roadside and the light was level with her window. We had interlined curtains in her room but there was always a slight glow.
When we moved here and it was pitch black she put a lamp on to go to sleep....and has done ever since. We turned it off, she woke and put it on.0 -
Our only daughter was born in 1991 when I was fifty and my wife thirty nine so she is our princess and is attending University at the moment studying psychology.
Sympathies. Does she over analyse everything you say? I am suffering the second child doing a psychology degree and it is tiring.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
